We all like a good scare. Well…we all like a good scare that doesn’t come when you open a letter from the bank or a utilities company. There is a lot of discussion of why we like to be made to feel uncomfortable and I am nowhere near qualified enough to weigh in on any of those arguments. I’ll just say that Google is your friend if you want to find out more.
Horror as a genre has been around for a lot longer than the cinema. Mary Shelly, Edgar Allen Poe, Bram Stoker, and a whole lot more have been telling tales to make your flesh crawl for centuries. Superstition and folklore go back even further. Following on from the early days of cinematic horror, there have been many and various sub-genres developed.
I can’t guarantee that we have identified, codified, and organised the whole creepy sub-culture but, as with all our other hubs, it’ll be a work in progress and continually updated.
