Resident Evil

What a freakin’ great ride.

I have ZERO knowledge of either the Resident Evil games or the movies. (I know, I know. Somehow I just never got around to any of them.) So I came into this one completely cold… and loved it.

If you’re like me and know nothing about it, here’s the setup: a guy gets stuck in a city in the middle of a virus outbreak, and it quickly becomes a kind of zombie apocalypse. That’s it. You don’t need to know anything else.

This 90-minute movie is fast, scary, funny, and shocking—all at once. It zips from situation to situation at breakneck speed, so you never really have time to sit and breathe… just like the character on screen.

My bladder thanks you so much!! App works great for telling u when and for how long you have a pee break! I didn't use the timer function so the dialog in the movie was a great clue as to when to go. I also liked the info about each movie to know whether there was any extra scenes during or after the credits. Nothing worse than waiting for all the credits and then no extra scene.

I must say this film is incredibly successful at blending a video game with a movie. You can see the character thinking through problems the way you would while playing a new game. For those of you who aren’t gamers, don’t let that put you off. It’s just interesting how often I could see the video-game roots—in a good way.

The performances are pretty much pitch perfect. Abrams expands on his stoner character from “Weapons,” and it’s always fun to see Zach Cherry and the great Paul Walter Hauser. But if anything, they’re a little underused.

Hurry and check this out in the biggest theater you can; the shocks will be bigger and louder—just the way they should be.
