I’ve been waiting on this movie for a while now. I had high hopes but kept myself from getting too excited since I’m usually disappointed with horror sequels that try to recapture past magic. Not this time. They promised us a great movie and they delivered. I Know What You Did Last Summer 2025 did an amazing job.

One of my favorite parts is how much they refer to the 1997 movie. It’s a classic in my opinion. I was in my prime when the original was released and I had such a crush on Freddie Prinze Jr. I was blown away with his first scene. I’m sitting there thinking, “Whoa, who’s the old fella with all the wrinkles and grey hair?” I quickly looked him up on IMDB – he’s three years younger than me! That means I’m one of the old gals now. It hurt. It really hurt to realize that it isn’t just the actors getting older, it’s me too. Not liking that at all.

Seeing Prinze Jr. and Jennifer Love Hewitt return to their roles after nearly three decades creates an interesting dynamic. Unlike some actors who seem uncomfortable revisiting their past, both embrace the history of their characters while bringing a weathered maturity that actually serves the story. Hewitt, in particular, carries the emotional weight of the original tragedy with a depth that her younger self couldn’t have achieved. It’s reminiscent of how Jamie Lee Curtis returned to the Halloween franchise – the years show, but they add gravitas rather than just nostalgia.

What works particularly well is how the film explores the idea that the past never truly stays buried. In 1997, keeping a secret meant hoping no one would talk. In 2025, with social media and digital footprints, the concept of hiding becomes infinitely more complex. The film cleverly uses this modern reality to create new tensions while honoring the original premise.

They did an amazing job on casting. Each and every one of them were able to get you to root for them or despise them. As legacy sequels go, this one understands that audiences want both familiarity and surprises. It doesn’t just rehash the original’s greatest hits – it builds on them while creating new mythology that feels organic rather than forced.

If you enjoyed this, you’ll probably love the recent Scream films and Halloween trilogy, which also successfully brought classic horror franchises into the modern era.

This is a great app. I wish more people would support it

This app provides info about movies, reviews, ratings from people who have seen it before and after viewing. It has links to info about the movies. It let’s you know when there will be a lull in the action and how long it will last. If you want to know what happens during that time, you can check the brief synopsis (you have to click a link, so no accidental spoilers). It has a timer you can set (silent) to alert you to a break. It also tells you whether there is anything extra during or after the credits. It’s really a wonderful app. I’ve subscribed for a couple of years to support the developers, but I noticed some of the links to provide feedback didn’t seem to work today. They also made it free, with voluntary donations to see the pee-times. If you haven’t tried it, I encourage you to do so, and subscribe if you like it. I really hope the app is supported so it can continue to be maintained!
