I watched Other Mommy last night, and I was hoping for more. Jessica Chastain plays two roles here, a mother named Ursula and the creepy double that comes out of a closet to terrorize her daughter. I love Chastain in horror. Remember Mama? So I had high hopes.
The effects were pretty good. The way Other Mommy moves gave me chills, and that’s the part I’ll remember. But the story is convoluted, and nobody ever explains it well. I kept waiting for it to click and it never did, so I walked out of the theater confused. I can’t tell you more without spoiling it, but if you like everything laid out for you, this one will frustrate you.

Now, Ursula. She wasn’t believable, and she felt shallow. But I don’t blame Jessica Chastain. She’s a great actress, and I’ll watch her in anything. I blame the script. You can’t give an actress nothing to work with and expect magic. Here’s the weird part: I ended up rooting for the villain. When the “bad” mommy is more interesting than the “good” one, that’s a writing problem. I wanted to be scared for this family, and instead I was waiting for Other Mommy to show up again.
If you want a better movie about a mother and a creepy double, I’d point you to Mama or Us. If you’re a Chastain fan, or you just want to see some cool effects, give it a shot, but don’t go in expecting a great story.

Movie Watching Must Have!!
I go feral for this app. I love it so much and I wish everyone knew about it and used it. It is incredibly useful and I would be devastated if this app ever disappeared. Things I love: 1) the pee times! It’s so handy to know the best time to go and then read the synopsis of what’s happening while I’m gone. I never have to worry about missing the good bits! 2) knowing if there is a post-credits scene or not. This might be my fav feature because I would have missed out on some pretty critical scenes if it weren’t for RunPee. 3) the movie review and viewer rankings. This info has made me watch some movies that I normally wouldn’t and it’s nice seeing things outside of my usual scope. 4) that it’s a small family run business. I love shopping small and it really does feel like I’m part of the RunPee family! If you reach out to them, Dan will personally respond to you and he is so warm and helpful. GET THIS APP AND THEN SUBSCRIBE! It is absolutely worth it and you’ll be using it again and again!

Plot
A young girl, Bela, forms a relationship with a sinister entity in her home who looks uncannily like her own mother.
RunPee.com owes RunPee Sis a huge debt of gratitude. She sees any movie needed with no complaints and has done so for ten years (even basing Thanksgiving and Christmas family festivities around the seeing films). In 2015 Sis ran the entire RunPee enterprise herself, while RunPee Dan, Jilly and Mom went traipsing off to Europe. Sis is the spider in the web holding the RunPee family together — besides being a funny, well rounded person, and a joyous pleasure to be around. Her favorite films start and end with horror (which thank goodness she’s happy to see, since most of us don’t have the stomach for it) — but also likes silly comedies, sad dramas, and musicals of all types. If you’ve used a Peetime for a scary film, you probably have RunPee Sis to thank for it.
Favorite movie genre: Horror, horror, and more horror. The more disturbing, the better. Period.
