Freakier Friday didn’t quite meet the expectations I’d built up in my head. I absolutely loved the original, and Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan had such incredible chemistry that I figured lightning would strike twice. Well, I was wrong.
The biggest disappointment was watching that magical mother-daughter dynamic from the first film just… disappear. The chemistry that made the original so special felt forced this time around, like everyone was trying too hard to recapture something that can’t be manufactured.

What really fell flat for me was the pacing. They rushed through the important emotional beats while letting individual scenes drag on way too long. I found myself checking my watch, which is never a good sign. The body-swap comedy that felt fresh and hilarious before now felt like they were going through the motions.
Curtis and Lohan are both talented actresses, but even they couldn’t save a script that felt like it was written because someone thought, “Hey, people liked the first one, let’s make another.”If you’re expecting the heartwarming, laugh-out-loud experience of the original, you might want to just rewatch that one instead.

about the RunPee app.
This is a great app. I wish more people would support it
This app provides info about movies, reviews, ratings from people who have seen it before and after viewing. It has links to info about the movies. It let's you know when there will be a lull in the action and how long it will last. If you want to know what happens during that time, you can check the brief synopsis (you have to click a link, so no accidental spoilers). It has a timer you can set (silent) to alert you to a break. It also tells you whether there is anything extra during or after the credits. It's really a wonderful app. I've subscribed for a couple of years to support the developers, but I noticed some of the links to provide feedback didn't seem to work today. They also made it free, with voluntary donations to see the pee-times. If you haven't tried it, I encourage you to do so, and subscribe if you like it. I really hope the app is supported so it can continue to be maintained!
Developers note: RunPee doesn't make much money but it supports itself nicely. Donations are appreciated, but not required. We'll add as many movies to the database as we can until there are no more movie theaters.

Plot
22 years after Tess and Anna endured an identity crisis, Anna now has a daughter and a soon-to-be stepdaughter. As they navigate the challenges that come when two families merge, Tess and Anna discover that lightning might strike …
RunPee.com owes RunPee Sis a huge debt of gratitude. She sees any movie needed with no complaints and has done so for ten years (even basing Thanksgiving and Christmas family festivities around the seeing films). In 2015 Sis ran the entire RunPee enterprise herself, while RunPee Dan, Jilly and Mom went traipsing off to Europe. Sis is the spider in the web holding the RunPee family together — besides being a funny, well rounded person, and a joyous pleasure to be around. Her favorite films start and end with horror (which thank goodness she’s happy to see, since most of us don’t have the stomach for it) — but also likes silly comedies, sad dramas, and musicals of all types. If you’ve used a Peetime for a scary film, you probably have RunPee Sis to thank for it.
Favorite movie genre: Horror, horror, and more horror. The more disturbing, the better. Period.

I totally agree with your review. Also, I struggled to keep straight who switched bodies with which character. I think that problem was with the development of the personalities of each swapped body. I don’t like 3 hr movies, but that might have helped this movie. Time for some new stories or new writers.
I actually disagree. While I do agree that nothing can TOP the original, it was a decent sequel. There were so many moments where I truly laughed out loud. While some small parts did seem a little forced—overall it wasn’t bad. Seeing it with family or friends that loved the original I think is better than seeing it alone initially. But with that being said, I cannot wait to watch it again on streaming, when the time comes.
Could’ve been better if they cast Bella Thorne instead of Lindsay Lohan.
I thought it was terrible. I was really excited about it. It was very confusing because of all the switched roles you had to keep reminding yourself who is who. I loved the first one, very disappointed.
Thank you everyone for your comments. It looks like we’re all split here. Some loved it while others were left a bit disappointed. You’re right, there are funny moments but I don’t think those moments were hilarious enough to keep the movie flowing.
Never saw the original. This was just OK. Couldn’t keep track of who switched bodies with whom. Thank goodness for A-list
Jamie Lee Curtis is now in her “Betty White” era of her career.
LOL, you’re so right. I hope she’s in this phase for a very long time. 🙂
