Angel Studios delivers another winner with The Last Rodeo, and I’ll admit it – this one had me in tears. When a horror fan like me gets emotional over a rodeo drama, you know something special is happening.
Neal McDonough absolutely carries this film as aging cowboy Joe Wainwright. After loving his performance in The Shift, I had high expectations, and he delivered completely. McDonough brings authentic grit to a character who could’ve been a cliché – the old cowboy chasing one last ride. Instead, he makes Joe’s determination feel deeply personal and genuinely inspiring.

The rodeo scenes felt authentic and visceral. You feel every ache in Joe’s aging body as he climbs onto those bulls, proving he’s not done yet. Angel Studios continues to impress me with its commitment to meaningful storytelling over flashy effects.
What moved me most was the film’s heart – it’s about never giving up on your dreams, no matter your age. The supporting cast creates a believable world of people dedicated to this dangerous, beautiful sport.
If you want a film that restores faith in determination and reminds you it’s never too late to chase dreams, The Last Rodeo delivers. Just bring tissues.

Got this back when I was pregnant, but I’ll be keeping it forever, it’s just so handy. I don’t go to the movie theater that often (even back before quarantine when you actually could…) but I make sure the app and the movie list are all current and updated, cause it’s so handy! It’s great for running late cause you can read their summary, obviously awesome for bathroom or snack breaks mid movie, and I also love that it tells you if there’s anything after the credits which is very handy.
