The interior scenes of the library, and other first floor scenes, were filmed on location at the Ames Family historic mansion in Borderland State Park, Easton, Massachusetts. The three-story, 20-room stone mansion was constructed in 1910, largely at the direction of Blanche Ames. Interior scenes in the upstairs rooms were filmed on stage.
The exterior shots were shot at an undisclosed location.
If you’ve seen Knives Out you can tell that this is obviously not the location used for the exterior shots of the mansion. This mansion at Borderland State Park, Massachusetts was only used for the interior shots filmed downstairs. Upstairs scenes were filmed on set.
Clearly, the owners of the mansion used for the exterior shots want to protect their privacy. Considering the politically subversive message in Knives Out this is completely understanding given the current political climate.

I can understand about not wanting people to show up and gawk at someone’s home, but in spite of the subplot, I would entirely open the house a couple times a year to show off their ‘celebrity’ status. All the proceeds could go toward upkeep on the mansion (which I’m sure isn’t cheap).
Even Downton Abbey had to go this route to help w keeping the estate running.
But then I’m in favor of geeks like me traveling to thrill at real places in fictional stories.
The owners of the house most definitely don’t need financial assistance for upkeep. The house is owned by one of the states wealthiest families and is very secluded from any public access on a quiet road.
Yeah, they don’t look like they’re hurting for money. Although, I guess these days you never know. There’s at least one self proclaimed billionaire who’s actually in debt. 🙂
