Last night I took my granddaughter, Savannah and her best friend Izzy to see Wuthering Heights. Both girls are 13, and I figured a tragic love story might be right up their alley. Well, I was half right. Izzy absolutely loved it, but Savannah? She fell asleep. I can’t say I blame her — this isn’t your typical teenage romance with happy endings and catchy soundtracks. This is heartbreak on a massive scale.
I’ll admit something right off the bat: I haven’t read the book. I know, I know. But here’s the thing — after watching this movie, I’m doing my homework this weekend. I need to see if the film followed the storyline because what I witnessed on screen has me completely captivated.
Margot Robbie as Cathy brought this character to life in unimaginable ways. Her acting power was simply extraordinary. I’ve seen Margot in everything from Barbie to I, Tonya, but this performance is something else entirely. She embodies the tragedy, the passion, and the absolute devastation of a woman who loses everything because of one missed conversation.

That’s the heartbreaking core of this story. One simple missed conversation caused years of heartache for everyone involved. Cathy and Heathcliff (played brilliantly by Jacob Elordi from Euphoria and Saltburn) were desperately in love with each other. But due to interference from Nelly, Heathcliff left before declaring his love, and Cathy ended up marrying Edgar instead. She had a lavish lifestyle with Edgar, but it couldn’t compare to her love for Heathcliff. She lived fairly happily until Heathcliff showed back up, and then their affair began.
The chemistry between Margot and Jacob was absolutely on fire. Every scene they shared crackled with intensity and longing. You could feel the years of separation, the regret, the desperate need to be together despite everything standing in their way.

I've loved this app for years and use it at the theater and home. Super easy to use and so helpful to know when it's a good time to run for the restroom. I notify my kids when it's close to time, so I don't end up running them to the restroom multiple times. (Updated review from 4 to 5 . I'd had an issue with the app while at the theater and it was quickly resolved with FANTASTIC customer service. Thanks, RunPee!)

Here’s what surprised me about Nelly’s character — I actually understood her motivation. She was watching out for herself in a time when being a single woman was incredibly difficult. It doesn’t excuse what she did, but it made her human rather than just a villain. That’s good storytelling right there.
Visually, this film is stunning. The usage of red in fabrics, paint, and costumes was visually splendid. It added another layer to the passion and tragedy unfolding on screen. The somber setting was authentic and beautiful — you could feel the weight of the moors, the isolation, the atmosphere of a world that wouldn’t let true love survive.
I won’t give away the ending, but I will say this: I was heartbroken for Heathcliff by the time the credits rolled. The tragedy of this story will stay with me for a long time.
Director Emerald Fennell (who also directed Saltburn with Jacob Elordi) has created something special here. The pacing was solid throughout — never dragging, always moving the story forward while giving the emotional moments room to breathe. That’s probably why Savannah dozed off — there are no action sequences or jump scares to keep a 13-year-old engaged. But Izzy? She was captivated from start to finish.
This is a movie that deserves to be seen on the big screen. The sweeping landscapes, the gorgeous costumes, the intimate close-ups — it all works better when you’re fully immersed in that world. Romance lovers and period piece fans will find a lot to love here.
I highly recommend Wuthering Heights if you’re in the mood for a tragic love story that will break your heart in the best possible way. Just make sure you’re ready for it — this isn’t a feel-good movie, but it’s absolutely worth your time.

RunPee.com owes RunPee Sis a huge debt of gratitude. She sees any movie needed with no complaints and has done so for ten years (even basing Thanksgiving and Christmas family festivities around the seeing films). In 2015 Sis ran the entire RunPee enterprise herself, while RunPee Dan, Jilly and Mom went traipsing off to Europe. Sis is the spider in the web holding the RunPee family together — besides being a funny, well rounded person, and a joyous pleasure to be around. Her favorite films start and end with horror (which thank goodness she’s happy to see, since most of us don’t have the stomach for it) — but also likes silly comedies, sad dramas, and musicals of all types. If you’ve used a Peetime for a scary film, you probably have RunPee Sis to thank for it.
Favorite movie genre: Horror, horror, and more horror. The more disturbing, the better. Period.

I loved it too. A little more graphic than I remembered from the 1990s version. I want to see the other 2 movie versions. I did a bit of writer research Emily Bronte wrote the novel under a pseudonym. After she passed her sister republished it with edits. Curious and Curiouser? Please post your novel comments!
