Let me start off by saying this isn’t my genre. I usually don’t do the Peetimes for these types of movies, since I’m not the target audience. However, I asked my brother to let me do it because I’m a huge Tom Hardy fan.
My husband is the target audience and he loved it. He thought it was funny and that they did a good job of getting Venom’s origins told. He feels the next one will be much better, since we won’t have to deal with the whole getting to know him thing. Tom Hardy was perfect for the role. He did an amazing job. Zero complaints there.
I felt that the first hour was boring. It dragged badly, and I couldn’t stand Michelle Williams as Anne. She was supposed to be Eddie’s (Tom Hardy) love interest. There was zero chemistry coming from her. Tom Hardy did a great job showing how badly he loved and needed her, but it most definitely wasn’t reciprocated by Williams. She just plain annoyed me.

The last thirty minutes of the movie really picked up speed, and that’s when the humor began. Once Venom was a part of Eddie, it was awesome. Now those two had chemistry! I was laughing and wishing there was more of the two of them…well, technically the one of them. I thoroughly enjoyed those moments.
We saw it in 3-D and really think it was worth it. We felt immersed throughout the entire movie; from start to end it was a cool effect. So I would definitely recommend seeing it in 3-D format.
So even with me feeling that the beginning dragged terribly, the absolute unlike for Williams performance, and it not being my type of movie, I’m still really looking forward to the next one.
Grade: C+
About the Peetimes: When I went into the movie, I saw that it had a run time of 1 hour and 51 minutes. What I didn’t realize was that this movie has 18 minutes worth of credits. The actual length of the film is only 1 hour and 33 minutes. That said, I only put in 2 Peetimes. I think these will work well.
