Trap_hero

Trap was a solid tension based movie that kept you guessing right up until the end. Josh Hartnett did an outstanding job with his role. He would bounce from the perfect father figure to a scheming serial killer called, The Butcher. This role needed a strong actor to portray the many different personalities that were tightly wound around each other.

M. Night Shyamalan is hands down my favorite director in the industry. I love how his movies always make you pay attention. You just know there is going to be something you get wrong and by the end of the movie you figure out you were totally wrong about everything. He’s really good at that. With Trap though, it wasn’t as secretive to me as, let’s say, The 6th Sense. If you don’t go in thinking that it will be a total mind bender, you’ll enjoy it more. I don’t think you’ll over think this one. It’s still very good, just not quite as good as his other movies.

I feel like this movie was a solid C+. M Night could have done a lot better.

My biggest gripe would be that the acting was so sub-par. We’re not expecting an Oscar performance here or anything….but the effort felt so minimal (aside from Josh Hartnett)

So many random little side plots also didn’t make sense. Like the daughters having an argument and the mom randomly saying “I have a dark side you don’t want to see.” Obviously foreshadowing, but at this point we already know what to expect, so what’s the point?

I also didn’t get why that merch stand employee was so quick to let him go down to the employee only area. That was so silly.

Didn’t have crazy high expectations, but this felt like a movie made by a new director. Not a legend like M. Night.

Thank you for the comment. I love it when Runpee users tell us what they think.

I agree with your thoughts. After reading your comment, I want to go and change my grade to a C. You’re correct. I also scratched my head over the vendor situation, that dude was over the top helpful.

There were some strange sub-plots that weren’t needed. It felt a bit choppy to me, especially given it was a Shyamalan production.

I really appreciate your thoughts, thank you.
