Movie Review – The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent

Where to start? This was such a fun movie from so many angles. Near the end of the movie I realized I had been smiling for who knows how long because everything was just so much fun. And it just makes me want to do a Nick Cage marathon and rewatch the classics: Raising Arizona, Con Air, The Rock, Face Off, and my personal favorite, National Treasure. Better yet, if you haven’t seen this movie yet then let me tell you you’ll enjoy it just that much more if you do a rewatch of your favorite Nick Cage movies before seeing this.
Acting
Well duh. It was perfect. And not just Nick Cage. This is easily my favorite Pedro Pascal role. I’ll be honest, I’ve not been impressed at all with Pedro Pascal’s roles to date. I’m going to say it, “I hated Mandalorian and my family had to force me to watch the last two episodes of the first season. After that I said, “I’m done. I don’t care how good this might get in the future, this is just garbage.” And OMG, Wonder Woman 1984 was cringe-worthy bad.

Meta
Obviously, having an A-list actor playing themselves in a movie is going to be meta. But it gets so much better than just that. I just saw this movie and I could sit down and watch it again tonight. In fact, I think I’ll have to take RunPee Mom to see this movie soon. Now I have an excuse to go see it again.
Grade: A+
I hope this is enough to get people talking about National Treasure III. Please, Disney, make this happen.
About The Peetimes: I have three Peetimes, but I’m not crazy about any of them. Every scene of this movie is meaningful on some level. We had to pick something to use as Peetimes and I think what we have makes the best of a bad situation.

Plot
The fictionalized version of Nick Cage must accept a $1 million offer to attend the birthday of a dangerous super fan Javi Gutierrez. I’m sorry but a A+? I am not sure what movie you watched but I saw a predictable one where some parts where so cringe worthy (The drug scene) to the “lets make this a more interesting story by having a kidnapping and putting in agents who are only seen for a few minutes and really are nothing but to move the movie forward. Sure there were funny parts (like “its hideous, I’ll give you $20k for it) but the close to the ending was not as satisfying as it should have been (was it all a dream?) It was the only movie in the past few years where I was thinking do I want to leave or hope it gets better, And I saw X, Halloween Kills, and Moonfall to name a few. No I will still stick with the great Nic Cage movies like Con Air, Rising Arizona, and my all time favorite “Face Off”

I saw this with my wife and two friends and we all thought it was just a joy to watch. I was constantly smiling through the entire second half of the movie. I checked Rottentomatoes and this has a 87% from both critics and audience. So pretty well received overall.
But we all have our unique subjective likes and dislikes. This is what I have to remind myself when I’m doing Peetimes for a movie that I think is pure garbage. No matter how bad I think a movie might be, someone out there is going to love it. And so I have to remember to treat the movie with that level of attention.

Thank you for your high praise of this movie. I’m not a huge Nicolas Cage person (I think I’ve seen two of his movies tops!!♀️), so this was not on my radar. But, because of your rating and review, I caught it on its last day at a theatre around here.
What a fun popcorn movie! Very enjoyable. Likable characters. More chuckles and legit LOLs than I thought I’d have. And it was less than two hours! (What a novel concept these days.)
It’s gone now so the only thing I’ll be able to tell my movie-going friends is to be on the lookout for it when it hits a streaming app.

I knew I was going to see it, albeit begrudgingly. Then the reviews came storming in. Believe me, I don’t typically get swayed into going to a movie based on what others say (especially critics), but I’ve not heard one negative comment yet! You are not the only one to float an A+ or A++ out there. You have lots of company.I’m looking forward to it.
