The movie feels like it’s aimed at a 5-10 year old kids. There’s no nuance to speak of but lots of frenetic action for the sake of spectacle that, I suppose, is meant to appeal to young kids.
I was a little surprised that there were so few adult references that parents would pick up, but would fly past a child. I didn’t spot anything like that, but maybe it just flew over my head, too?

There was a row of about six kids, probably around 10ish years old, sitting in front of my at the theater when I did Peetimes. They seemed adequately engaged with the story.
Violence
I was a little surprised by the way violence was portrayed in the movie. I get it that the source material from the game is inherently violent, but some of it felt like too much. Like it’s okay for Mario to get mad and stomp on Bowser, even though he explicitly asked for it. That wasn’t the only occasion, but it’s the one I recall thinking, “I wouldn’t want to see my kid watch a good guy lose his temper and stomp on someone/something.” Especially when the outcome reinforces the action. I don’t know how you get around that, given the source material. But it doesn’t seem that the writers were concerned with this at all.

Brilliant idea with great information
I’ve been using RunPee for a few years now and it’s basically a requirement of going to the movies for me. The best part of course are the “pee times” that give you cues, synopses and times for when you can pee without missing the most important parts of the movie. There is also information about the credits- length, extras and if there are any extra scenes at the wayyy end. Super helpful to just know that it is or isn’t worth staying. There is a timer function that will buzz your phone when it’s a good time to pee. I also appreciate that the app is very conscientious about it being an app you use in a theater- dark background, all silent alarms etc. I will always enjoy the experience of the theater even if I could watch things at home- but I’ve even used it at home to check for things like after credit scenes or other information too.

Creator and developer of the RunPee app. When something doesn’t work right in the app it’s pretty much his fault. 🙂
Aspiring author. Would like to finish his “Zombie Revelations” trilogy if he could break away for working on RunPee and the cottage he’s building for RunPee Mom.
