Movie Review – Solo Mio

For me, there has to be some believability in a romance movie, and this one just didn’t do it for me. It all hinges around the first time Matt and Gia meet, and I don’t see any reason for Gia to be anything other than dismissive toward Matt. In any realistic situation, Gia would think, Typical American. Give him his espresso and never think of him again.

I just don’t get it. And that pretty much ruins everything else going forward.

There are some mildly humerous moments here and there. I noticed other people in the theater laughing as well, so the movie definitely earns the comedy-genre-badge.

I do appreciate the intraspection that Matt goes through, and his gradual understanding of the flaws in his relationship with his fiancée.

Single best investment

By and far best investment Ive made. I used to drive my husband nuts because Id be a fidgeting mess the last half hour of the movie trying not to miss important parts. Now I just turn this app on and *bam* I can actually focus on the movie the whole time. Even puts alerts to my watch so even better. Also I can guarentee all the 5 star star star star star reviews arent fake as one person accused - its just that so many of us movie-goers had the same problem and this fixed it. Yes, it is paid but jeeze its expensive to keep watching movies and updating an app for every movie. And if you read more about the creator he mentions he has several people contributing - so yeah its paid but omg worth every cent. 10/10

I didn’t hate watching the movie, and I was hoping for a happy ending. But I wouldn’t recommend this to anyone who wants to watch a good romance movie. There are better ones out there.

  1. Not trying to be disrespectful here, I love the app, the reviews and I’ve even donated what little money I can when I could but I don’t think we saw the same movie!?!?!

Granted it was not vintage Kevin James, in fact he looked nothing himself to me compared to the rest of his movies and that’s good because they’re mostly comedic but this was showed him dealing with a serious heart punch! I know I’ve been through something similar to the character and I wish I’d had the two friends he had, even at their most dill-weediness!

And the awesome twist the Gia helped his fiancé right the dear John letter that would ultimately bring them together!!!!

That’s kismet at is best in romance movies!

Maybe it was the studio? I like Angel Studios but maybe they are for you like A24 is for me, I see that logo and I’m like ‘Hereditary’, ‘Pearl series’ ’Civil War’ which should have been just called ‘Kill Squad’ because that was the overall goal.

When I first read your review and saw that part about ‘you hoped for a happy ending’ I was concerned but I thought maybe it would be like one of my novellas where it wasn’t a happy ending but what I called a ‘peaceful’ ending but I’m glad there was a happy ending and they got together.

I don’t know, like I said, no disrespect but I just don’t think you got the movie or you were in the mood for it? You are correct about one thing, it wasn’t a typical romance or even Rom-Com or a Dark Comedy, actually it had elements of it all which to me really brought it together as a story all to itself.

    1. Hey Jason. No disrespect taken at all. I think it’s actually a fairly sad reflection of the times that *we* are so careful today to “carefully-disagree” for the worry that one difference of opinion means more than it does. Of course, this is a movie review. I expect that most people will disagree with it, and that has no reflection on the RunPee app itself.

      It’s just a movie. Right? 🙂

So, I’m happy that you enjoyed it and the movie *worked* for you. I’m a writer as well and I look for character motivations, and I just didn’t see any motivation for Gia. Mostly because their first real interaction had him correcting *her Italian* pronunciation. Now, I think that could have worked if Gia showed more disinterest in him afterward. Her moment of attraction could have come when Matt appologized for correcting her. I think the scene works better if Matt goes to her and sincerely appologizes. Now that’s something new for Gia, because of her relationship with her ex-husband. I think all the ingredients were there. They just didn’t get mixed properly.

But, having said all that, I’m also trying to find Peetimes as I watch a movie and I have to allow that maybe there are nuances that the characters are expressing that other viewers pick up on that I may miss.

Thanks for the comment here. Feel free to disagree with me about movies all you want. 🙂

  2. I agree with Jason Owen’s assessment of this movie. And anytime there is a rom-com movie that my HUSBAND enjoys, I’ll give it high praise. And THIS was THAT movie for us. Enjoyable, entertaining, and sweet. Perfect for a Valentine’s Day date.
