Movie Review – Motor City

Please help promote the RunPee app by sharing our content.

Motor City is one of the most unconventional films I’ve seen in quite a while. From beginning to end, the film has maybe 50 spoken words – at most! Instead of relying on dialogue, Motor City tells its story through stylish visuals, moody lighting, sharp editing, and a great mid-’70s soundtrack that does much of the heavy lifting. Pretty gutsy, and I have to give the filmmakers a lot of credit for fully committing to it. They prove you don’t need words to tell a story. It’s a great reminder that movies are supposed to be a visual medium.

Unfortunately, where Motor City falls short is in the strength of the story itself.

While the presentation feels new and innovative, the story is all too familiar. It’s built around a well-worn revenge premise that rarely ventures beyond the expected, making the film feel predictable, despite its style. Aside from one particularly well-executed fight scene, there are very few moments at most that will genuinely surprise you.

Ironically, the film’s greatest strength also highlights its biggest weakness. Beneath its innovative, outside-the-box storytelling lies a predictable narrative that doesn’t take the same creative risks as the filmmaking itself.

All that being said, I’m glad I saw Motor City. I’d much rather see a film that swings for the fences than one that plays it safe – even though it didn’t quite stick the landing.

This is a great app. I wish more people would support it

This app provides info about movies, reviews, ratings from people who have seen it before and after viewing. It has links to info about the movies. It let's you know when there will be a lull in the action and how long it will last. If you want to know what happens during that time, you can check the brief synopsis (you have to click a link, so no accidental spoilers). It has a timer you can set (silent) to alert you to a break. It also tells you whether there is anything extra during or after the credits. It's really a wonderful app. I've subscribed for a couple of years to support the developers, but I noticed some of the links to provide feedback didn't seem to work today. They also made it free, with voluntary donations to see the pee-times. If you haven't tried it, I encourage you to do so, and subscribe if you like it. I really hope the app is supported so it can continue to be maintained!

Developers note: RunPee doesn't make much money but it supports itself nicely. Donations are appreciated, but not required. We'll add as many movies to the database as we can until there are no more movie theaters.
