Movie Review – Last Voyage of the Demeter

Dracula-The-Last-Voyage-of-the-Demeter_hero

The Last Voyage of the Demeter was amazing. I loved the way it kept the feel of an old horror classic. The movie concept was taken from a chapter within Dracula called, “The Captain’s Log.” That’s pretty crafty in my opinion.

I was not familiar with any of the cast off the top of my head. Even though I didn’t recognize anyone they all did a fabulous job. The characters were all so very unique that there was plenty of room for the cast to showcase their abilities. I’m curious if anyone else will pick up on this but as I was watching the movie and Captain Eliot (Liam Cunningham) would speak, all I could hear was Liam Neeson. I’m sitting here in my chair right now laughing because I just discovered they also share a name. I didn’t know that until 45 seconds ago.

The Demeter itself, I want. Talk about a cool set. I could almost smell the wood and sea during the show. They did a great job.

If you’re interested in Dracula, love the high seas, and crave adventure, then I highly recommend this movie.

Grade: A-

About The Peetimes: I found 2 really great Peetimes. This was a difficult movie to try and find 4-minute chunks that could be summarized. These 2 will work quite well.

Brilliant idea with great information

I’ve been using RunPee for a few years now and it’s basically a requirement of going to the movies for me. The best part of course are the “pee times” that give you cues, synopses and times for when you can pee without missing the most important parts of the movie. There is also information about the credits- length, extras and if there are any extra scenes at the wayyy end. Super helpful to just know that it is or isn’t worth staying. There is a timer function that will buzz your phone when it’s a good time to pee. I also appreciate that the app is very conscientious about it being an app you use in a theater- dark background, all silent alarms etc. I will always enjoy the experience of the theater even if I could watch things at home- but I’ve even used it at home to check for things like after credit scenes or other information too.

Plot
Based on a single chapter, the Captain’s Log, from Bram Stoker’s classic 1897 novel Dracula, the story is set aboard the Russian schooner Demeter, which was chartered to carry private cargo – twenty-four unmarked wooden crates – from Carpathia to London. The film will detail the strange events that befell the doomed crew as they attempt to survive the ocean voyage, stalked each night by a terrifying presence on board the ship. When it finally arrived near Whitby Harbour, it was a derelict. There was no trace of the crew.

That’s ’cause both Liams are Irish! Lol! The doctor on board had a short stint on The Walking Dead and I saw him briefly in another film. He was great. The co-captain was barely recognizable, but I’ve seen him in other movies and he was in the recent Oppheimer. I recognized the captain more from his IMDB picture than in the film. Overall, everyone did a great acting job! Theship was a character and also did a great job!

I think that, for me, Liam Cunningham will always be Davos Seaworth from Game Of Thrones!
