One of the running gags of the endlessly repeating loop of Bill Murray’s 90s film Groundhog Day features beleaguered weatherman Phil Conners waking up each day to Sonny and Cher’s 1965 oldies hit I Got You Babe, followed by this ‘chilling’ quote: “OK, campers, rise and shine, and don’t forget your booties, cause it’s cold out there. It’s cold out there every day.”
During the course of morning repeats (literally, with clearly over a thousand ‘days’ to endure), it all starts at 6am, when the alarm clock begins its dreaded, inevitable lyrics. Phil throws, smashes, drowns, and abuses the clock, but each day it keeps sucking Phil into another February 2nd. Phil’s story seems to be about becoming a certain kind of person, but the song we hear is a great shorthand to let the viewer know things are still cycling through the daily loop.
Here’s the video and lyrics to I Got You Babe, to get you in the mood for your own sense of the inevitable. Ever feel like everything is always the same, and nothing you do matters? I guess it gives you forever to learn to be happy and make things right. You can really delve into “Phil”-osophy with this film. Just how many days did he live over the course of this really fine film?

Here’s a Groundhog Day compilation set to I Got You Babe:
I Got You Babe
(Song by Sonny and Cher)
They say we’re young and we don’t know
We won’t find out until we grow
Well I don’t know if all that’s true
‘Cause you got me, and baby I got you
Babe
I got you babe
I got you babe
They say our love won’t pay the rent
Before it’s earned, our money’s all been spent
I guess that’s so, we don’t have a plot
But at least I’m sure of all the things we got
What people are saying
about the RunPee app.
Must have app if you love the movies
If you’re like me and enjoy a 92oz soda as part of the movie experience, you’ll be thankful for this app telling you the best times to go for a quick break. Whether that’s to refill your soda or recycle it.
Possibly an even better feature is the info on if the movie has after credits scenes. There’s nothing worse than sitting there reading about who the key grip was, then finding out that’s all you did. I blame Marvel for the stupid trend.
Seriously, I see a dozen movies a month and use this app every single time. Worth every Penny of the infinity coin thing I bought.

Babe
I got you babe
I got you babe
I got flowers in the spring
I got you to wear my ring
And when I’m sad, you’re a clown
And if I get scared, you’re always around
Don’t let them say your hair’s too long
‘Cause I don’t care, with you I can’t go wrong
Then put your little hand in mine
There ain’t no hill or mountain we can’t climb
Babe
I got you babe
I got you babe
I got you to hold my hand
I got you to understand
I got you to walk with me
I got you to talk with me
I got you to kiss goodnight
I got you to hold me tight
I got you, I won’t let go
I got you to love me so
I got you babe
I got you babe
I got you babe
I got you babe
I got you babe
I got you babe
I got you babe
I got you babe…
