Movie Review – I.S.S.

Read Time:1 Minute, 52 Second

I thought this movie was going to be worse than it was. My expectation going in was around a D-. But I’ll give them credit, it wasn’t bad. That being said, it definitely wasn’t enjoyable either because, you know, the seemingly total destruction of planet Earth. But that’s just the backdrop; literally, in many scenes, Earth on Fire is the backdrop.

I am really impressed with the overall acting. Especially from Masha Mashkova (Weronika Vetrov, the female Russian cosmonaut). That being said, I think the writers or director could have done a better job adding scenes where the actors get to act without dialog. Specifically, when they watch the bombs going off would have been a great time to see each character’s reaction. This is about the most nightmare event that could happen and to watch it from orbit… There are no words to express what it would be like. And that’s what they should have included in the movie, a moment to let each actor have the chance to show through facial expression and body language just how horrible this is. But instead, the movie breezes past that and they go into crisis mode too quickly.

One of the most useful apps I’ve ever come across. I’ve used it for years and recommended it to all my friends. Even if I’m not the type to have to pee during movies often, being able to pull up the app and pass my phone to my mom/friend/grandma so that they know when to go to the bathroom has been invaluable. Because then I don’t have to summarize anything when they get back!!

Spoilers Ahead

I can’t say anything more about the movie without diving into some spoilers. I’m really glad they didn’t make the drama a US vs Russia thing, but instead, the alliances broke down into personality types. That’s one of the reasons I enjoyed the movie more than expected. It wasn’t as predictable as the trailer made it out to be.

Grade: C+

About The Peetimes: This is a short movie with a lot of consequential scenes. I found two good Peetimes that work pretty well. The first Peetime is the best.

  1. So this is a thriller in space? I like the nightmarish premise you’ve described. Imagine being trapped up there, watching such things. They select people with calm dispositions to live in space, but how can someone deal with…well, the destruction of Alderaan plus a death sentence? How long realistically can they live up there without a way to Earth? I’m probably overthinking this movie, but it could be a sort of The Martian, but on a space station.

    1. That’s not what the story is about at all. You should check out the trailer. It’s about the conflict of national interests between the three US and three Russian astronauts. Although, alliances don’t split as perfectly as US vs Russia.
