I’ve noticed something over the years. I can’t put numbers on it, but it seems to me that there just aren’t that many movie scripts that put many demands on the actors. Perhaps that’s because there are so many superhero movies these days. Don’t get me wrong, there are some great actors in superhero movies, but the scripts rarely demand their best work.

This script has meat on the bone for any hungry actor. One scene after another demanded the very best from all the actors. Everyone from Dave Bautista to Kristen Cui (the little girl) was fantastic.

The story is basically a live-action version of the game Scruples—where you ask people what they would do in specific situations. Props to Shyamalan, et al. for resisting the urge to add unnecessary complexity. There’s no need to explain the hows and whys of what’s going on.

Is it Gory?

If you’ve seen many of Shyamalan’s movies you’ll know that he’s not a big fan of gore. I can’t remember a movie of his that ever displayed body horror. The violence in Knock at the Cabin is entirely, or nearly entirely, out of the frame of the camera. I saw the movie alone and was wringing my hands many times. But there was never any imagery that I felt was disturbing.

Grade: A

About The Peetimes: There are a LOT of tense scenes in this movie that made it difficult to find good Peetimes. All of the Peetimes I found center around flashbacks to Andrew and Eric’s life leading up to the present because each is easy to summarize.

There are extra scenes during, or after, the end credits of Knock at the Cabin.

My bladder thanks you so much!! App works great for telling u when and for how long you have a pee break! I didn’t use the timer function so the dialog in the movie was a great clue as to when to go. I also liked the info about each movie to know whether there was any extra scenes during or after the credits. Nothing worse than waiting for all the credits and then no extra scene.

I did like this movie, and I REALLY appreciate the lack of gore, I mean it is suggested and you can imagine what is happening but it moves away when it happens which I like, there is no need to show it, your mind has more imagination the what someone could film, One thing I would have liked is if the thing in the movie happened before, (If you know what I mean) or was this a first time thing. But yes a good movie and I hope people see it.

  2. I couldn’t agree more. Shyamalan is a mature filmmaker/storyteller who doesn’t have to rely on gore to build tension. I wish there were more like him.
