As much as I really didn’t want to bother watching this movie, I’m glad I did. I can’t think of anything to say other than this feels like someone tried to make an indie movie with zombies. Now, that someone is writer Alex Garland. The man knows how to write a good script. Honestly, that was the only compelling reason I had to watch this movie. Other than the fact that I had to in order to find the Peetimes. 🙂

That really didn’t happen for me in this movie, and I normally do that constantly throughout most movies. I can’t help it, but not in this movie, and I think the reason is, is that this is a really well-told story. There isn’t a big, dramatic clash of wills or any grand spectacles like that. It’s just a few characters, some crazy, some scared, some apathetic, but all well-defined characters that act like real people.
Speaking of Acting
Everyone was superb. That’s what you get when you combine great actors (Ralph Fiennes) with masterful writing (Alex Garland) and combine the two with solid direction (Nia DaCosta). Here’s how you can tell if the director is any good: did everyone, especially the actors who only get a few moments on screen, do a good job of acting? If so, that’s got to be on the director. It’s unlikely that you’re going to get a dozen or so actors that you’ve never heard of before to do a great job on their own. It takes good direction.

One of the most useful apps I've ever come across. I've used it for years and recommended it to all my friends. Even if I'm not the type to have to pee during movies often, being able to pull up the app and pass my phone to my mom/friend/grandma so that they know when to go to the bathroom has been invaluable. Because then I don't have to summarize anything when they get back!!

Where do we go from here?
I just checked Alex Garland’s IMDB and guess what’s next on his plate? 28 Years Later: Part III. We don’t know when yet, but there’s at least one more good movie to look forward to. I hope they keep the same quality as the previous two.
