Director James Cameron announced that the next Avatar movie will be titled Avatar: The Way of Water. The highly anticipated sequel is scheduled for release this winter on December 16th, 2022. The third Avatar movie will be released the following December 2023. Cameron confirmed that as soon as post-production work is complete on Avatar 3 they will begin shooting Avatar 4 and 5 back to back.
The premier trailer for Avatar: The Way of Water will be shown exclusively before Dr. Strange in the Multiverse of Madness—as if we needed more incentive to see it. 🙂

Avatar: The Way of Water will, unsurprisingly, incorporate many underwater scenes, therefore Cameron and his team developed new technology in order to film motion capture scenes in 3D underwater, something never previously achieved.
A remastered Avatar will be re-released in theaters on September 23 for fans to gear up for the sequel.
Producer Jon Landau explained at CinemaCon that “each story will come to its own conclusion, and each movie will deliver to audiences fulfilling emotional resolutions,” despite the multiple sequels in the works.
Landau added, “However when looked at as a whole, the journey across all four movies will connect to create an even larger epic saga.”
