A good gaming scene can change the whole mood of a movie. Everyone’s watching the same card, waiting for the next bet and you’re wondering if a character is about to make a very bad decision.

The Sting
The Sting is full of gambling and cheating, but the card game on the train is especially entertaining. Robert Shaw’s character thinks he has the upper hand before Paul Newman’s character turns the tables on him. It’s a clever scene and a good example of why gambling works so well in a con movie.
Casino
Nicky Santoro’s blackjack scene is one of the standouts in Casino. He asks for a $50,000 marker and causes chaos around the table. There are also big dice wagers and other casino moments throughout the film, but this one gives you a pretty good idea of Nicky’s personality.

Movie Watching Must Have!!
I go feral for this app. I love it so much and I wish everyone knew about it and used it. It is incredibly useful and I would be devastated if this app ever disappeared. Things I love: 1) the pee times! It’s so handy to know the best time to go and then read the synopsis of what’s happening while I’m gone. I never have to worry about missing the good bits! 2) knowing if there is a post-credits scene or not. This might be my fav feature because I would have missed out on some pretty critical scenes if it weren’t for RunPee. 3) the movie review and viewer rankings. This info has made me watch some movies that I normally wouldn’t and it’s nice seeing things outside of my usual scope. 4) that it’s a small family run business. I love shopping small and it really does feel like I’m part of the RunPee family! If you reach out to them, Dan will personally respond to you and he is so warm and helpful. GET THIS APP AND THEN SUBSCRIBE! It is absolutely worth it and you’ll be using it again and again!

Ocean’s Eleven
Danny Ocean and his team are trying to rob three Las Vegas casinos at the same time, with $160 million in the vault. Watching the plan come together and all the security tricks is what makes these casino scenes so enjoyable.
The Hangover
Blackjack gets a comedy treatment in The Hangover. Zach Galifianakis’ character starts counting cards and manages to win a lot of money. It’s unexpected, ridiculous and the kind of casino scene which can bring back memories of playing your favourite casino games.
Casino Royale
Bond and Le Chiffre’s poker game is all about nerves. There’s plenty of money at stake, but Bond’s mission gives the game even more meaning. The players have to work out what everyone else is holding while trying not to reveal too much themselves.
Rain Man
Charlie brings Raymond to a blackjack table after discovering his talent for counting cards. Raymond’s skill gives Charlie a way to win, but the scene is also important for showing the brothers working together.
The Hustler
Paul Newman’s pool player gets involved in a world where games mean serious money and serious trouble. The challenge of taking on the best player gives the film its tension. It’s gambling, but without the usual casino setting.
Molly’s Game
The poker games in Molly’s Game take place behind closed doors, with celebrities and billionaires sitting around the tables. Molly Bloom is running some very high-stakes games, and the atmosphere is more exclusive than a regular casino. These players have plenty to lose.
Rounders
The final Mike versus Teddy KGB poker game is the scene most people remember. Mike has a lot riding on the result and has to rely on his ability to read Teddy. It’s all about waiting to see who will make the first mistake.
Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery
Austin Powers plays blackjack with exactly the kind of confidence you’d expect from Austin Powers. His willingness to make a completely ridiculous decision at the table turns a simple card game into a joke that fits the movie perfectly.
There are plenty of gaming scenes that could have made the list, but these stand out for different reasons. Some are tense, some are funny, and some are memorable simply because the game tells us something about the people playing it.
