The movie holds up well today thanks to it’s commentary on race relations, something that of course if still so important in this day and age. It also gives you a real look at the street basketball culture of the time, something that many people will really enjoy.
The betting aspect of this film does take a back seat to the other themes that are explored, but it does offer a great jumping off point for them. If you have never seen this movie before, there have never been a better time to check it out.
- Hardball
This movie takes a look at the downside of sports betting, featuring a character played by Keanu Reeves who has found himself in debt due to betting. This leads him to become a little league baseball coach to repay those debts, and this is where he begins to grow as a person and really become a part of his community. As seen with many of the newer betting websites, responsible betting is a central theme with modern betting. Again, the betting is simply the starting point for this movie, allowing the characters to really grow and understand their own impacts on the world around them.
As well as Reeves, there is a stand-out performance from Diane Lane, making this movie are must watch for those who have not already seen it.
- Eight Men Out
Do you prefer a movie that is based on a true story? If so, then you need to watch this 1988 classic, starring John Cusack. The movie revolves around the story of the 1919 Chicago Black Sox scandal. This was when eight members of the team were conspiring with a group of gamblers, in order to throw the World Series so the gamblers could win.
The movie focuses on the trial of these members, giving you a real insight into why they did what they did and the temptation of rigging matches for money. Many cinephiles call this movie a must watch, especially because this event was what changed Major League history forever. Because of this, both movie fans and sports fans should get a lot out of it.
What people are saying
about the RunPee app.
This is a great app. I wish more people would support it
This app provides info about movies, reviews, ratings from people who have seen it before and after viewing. It has links to info about the movies. It let’s you know when there will be a lull in the action and how long it will last. If you want to know what happens during that time, you can check the brief synopsis (you have to click a link, so no accidental spoilers). It has a timer you can set (silent) to alert you to a break. It also tells you whether there is anything extra during or after the credits. It’s really a wonderful app. I’ve subscribed for a couple of years to support the developers, but I noticed some of the links to provide feedback didn’t seem to work today. They also made it free, with voluntary donations to see the pee-times. If you haven’t tried it, I encourage you to do so, and subscribe if you like it. I really hope the app is supported so it can continue to be maintained!
Developers note: RunPee doesn’t make much money but it supports itself nicely. Donations are appreciated, but not required. We’ll add as many movies to the database as we can until there are no more movie theaters.
