Tom Cruise Broke Ankle in MI: Fallout Stunt – and kept filming

Read Time:1 Minute, 47 Second
He does his own stunts…and sometimes gets ouchies.

What is it about actors doing their own stunts, and especially actor alum from the Mission Impossible franchise?

Tom Cruise is known for doing some crazy maneuvers in his films. [pullquote]There’s a scene in Mission Impossible: Fallout where Cruise keeps on running with a broken ankle, so the cast could wrap up filming and go home.[/pullquote]

Jeremy Renner, who also stars in theย Mission Impossibleย franchise as an unbreakable spy, followed through one of his scenes with TWO broken arms that had to be CGIed in, after filming his chair-surfing stunt in the hit comedy Tag. (We wrote that up here.)

Hats off to these actors. (Or maybe they need a thump on the head.) ๐Ÿ™‚

This is the scene Cruise runs around with a broken ankle. You can see him limping as he pulls himself up and keeps on filming:ย

Cruise’s stunt was actually performed correctly…he was supposed to miss that wall. But he still landed wrong.ย  In the side take, you can see the weird and somewhat gruesome angle of his foot against the wall. Feet don’t normally look like that.

This is a great app. I wish more people would support it

This app provides info about movies, reviews, ratings from people who have seen it before and after viewing. It has links to info about the movies. It let’s you know when there will be a lull in the action and how long it will last. If you want to know what happens during that time, you can check the brief synopsis (you have to click a link, so no accidental spoilers). It has a timer you can set (silent) to alert you to a break. It also tells you whether there is anything extra during or after the credits. It’s really a wonderful app. I’ve subscribed for a couple of years to support the developers, but I noticed some of the links to provide feedback didn’t seem to work today. They also made it free, with voluntary donations to see the pee-times. If you haven’t tried it, I encourage you to do so, and subscribe if you like it. I really hope the app is supported so it can continue to be maintained!

Developers note: RunPee doesn’t make much money but it supports itself nicely. Donations are appreciated, but not required. We’ll add as many movies to the database as we can until there are no more movie theaters.

It’s nice to have a stunt person take on the option of broken and mangled body parts, but there’s a certain cachet to doing your own stuntwork. Cruise and Renner are like real-life superheroes! Renner, as Hawkeye, does play one in the Avengers films. Which makes me wonder – when will Cruise get his own role in a Marvel film?
