Okay, we can relax. It didn’t suck. In fact, the fight scenes are the best so far in the Monsterverse.
Grade: B+

Nobody totally exceeded my expectations. I’ve been waiting for this to come out and had high hopes. Usually when I’m really looking forward to a movie, it sucks. Not last night. I had so much fun watching it doing my job was hard.

For unknown reasons, Warner Brothers didn’t advertise it as a sequel to Godzilla (2014), the first movie in the Monsterverse. Here’s the biggest clue I found and where it was hidden that, indeed, King of the Monsters was intended to follow up after Skull Island.

If you’re looking for a surprising comedy like Palm Springs to come out of this year’s Sundance Film Festival, this is it.  The script is original and combines laughs with genuine emotion.  There are a ton of surprise cameos too.

In this powerful movie, the parents of a school shooter and the parents of one of his victims meet to try to get some closure. Out of everything I saw at Sundance, this is the one movie I expect to go to the Oscars next year.
