Movie Review – The French Dispatch

french-dispatch_header

Before I dive into the review, there are two things I want to make clear. First, The French Dispatch is a hard movie to do Peetimes for, which makes it hard to write a fair review, since I couldn’t be fully invested in the experience. But I will try to do my best. Second, if you like Wes Anderson movies, you will like this one; if you have never been a fan, this movie still has all the things you don’t like before.

A love letter to journalists set in an outpost of an American newspaper in a fictional twentieth-century French city that brings to life a collection of stories published in “The French Dispatch Magazine”.

I’m a fan of Wes Anderson movies myself, not just because of the bizarre stories he likes to tell in a bizarre way, but the visual aspect of them. His movies usually offer such a beautiful and unique experience, The French Dispatch is no exception.

I like how the story is told with mini-stories from different journalists. We get to see different stories from different categories in a unified theme and background. I liked all of the mini-stories; each one of them can be studied and discussed. What made it hard for me was the French and the subtitles. Don’t get me wrong, I love it in the movie — I think it adds such a beautiful flow to it — I wish the whole movie could just be in French. Mainly because I love the sound of French. But it made doing Peetimes so much harder. I struggle between “should I write that down” and crap — I just missed that bit of subtitle.

I guess the best way to conclude how I feel about the movie is, given the chance, I would totally watch it again just to enjoy it.

Grade: B

About The Peetimes: If you know Wes Anderson’s style, you know this is a hard movie to do Peetimes for. I managed to find 2 Peetimes that I think are well-spaced. They are equally mediocre to me. 🙂

There are extra scenes during, or after, the end credits of The French Dispatch. (What we mean by Anything Extra.)

Water drinkers unite

Run pee is the best app for people who find themselves needing to pee a lot but also not wanting to miss any action. The app gives you the best times to use the bathroom during a movie while also telling you when to leave and which lines to listen for! It not only gives you the time you should go pee, but it also explains to you what is happening during the break. I helped I use this app every time I go to the movies now. My god father recommended this app to 5 years ago and it’s been in my phone ever since! Highly recommended.
