The app that tells you the best time to run and pee during a movie without missing the best scenes.

OnWard is just another average Pixar movie. Average for Pixar; better than most anything else.

The trailer reveals the gist of the story, but the central theme is left out. I won’t ruin it for you here by saying what it is, but it has the Pixar magic.

What Pixar does consistently– and better than anyone else — is tell layered stories that don’t rely on obvious tropes. Or they at least mix common tropes in unexpected ways.

The chemistry between Ian (voiced by Tom Holland) and Barley (voiced by Chris Pratt) was magnificent. They expressed the story perfectly. If there were an Oscar for character voicing they’d both be nominated.

The only reason I’m not giving this movie an A+ is that I don’t think it is iconic as other Pixar productions like Up, Wall-E, and Finding Nemo.

Grade: A

About The Peetimes: Vera and I did the Peetimes for this and both agreed on each. That’s a good sign the Peetimes were pretty obvious. All three Peetimes are good, but I think the middle one is the best.

This is a great app. I wish more people would support it

This app provides info about movies, reviews, ratings from people who have seen it before and after viewing. It has links to info about the movies. It let’s you know when there will be a lull in the action and how long it will last. If you want to know what happens during that time, you can check the brief synopsis (you have to click a link, so no accidental spoilers). It has a timer you can set (silent) to alert you to a break. It also tells you whether there is anything extra during or after the credits. It’s really a wonderful app. I’ve subscribed for a couple of years to support the developers, but I noticed some of the links to provide feedback didn’t seem to work today. They also made it free, with voluntary donations to see the pee-times. If you haven’t tried it, I encourage you to do so, and subscribe if you like it. I really hope the app is supported so it can continue to be maintained!

Developers note: RunPee doesn’t make much money but it supports itself nicely. Donations are appreciated, but not required. We’ll add as many movies to the database as we can until there are no more movie theaters.

  1. Dan, do you think Onward fits into the Pixar Theory?

I like all the D&D references. I think I’ll love this film.

  2. Good question. I’m sure that the CarlinBros can make it fit into the Pixar Theory. 🙂

  3. Truth. I totally want to adopt those guys.

Does anyone know if this is worth seeing in 3D or IMAX?

My opinion is 3D, probably not, IMax, maybe. Many films you can watch and see where the 3D would kick in but this wasn’t one of them. As for the IMax… it’s been so long since I’ve seen one (back in the last millennium!) that I’m not sure what the real difference is!

Thanks Rob. I saw it in IMAX and it wasn’t worth the extra cost. I mainly went because the standard theatre was sold out but I practically had the imax theatre to myself. (Should have told me something). I also agree that there didn’t appear to be enough that 3-d would have been worth it. Although the dancing scene would have been even more funny. Movie was good. Just not IMAX specific worthy. And I agree with Dan that this was a really good movie but just good/‘average’ for PIXAR standards.

  11. Hey Susanne. You know, we actually have a feature to let you know if a movie is worth seeing in 3D in the RunPee app. If you select a movie and scroll to the bottom of the Movie Info screen you’ll see buttons to IMDb. Rottentomatoes, etc. Among those is a 3D Vote button that will let you give the 3D version of a movie a thumbs up or down.

Unfortunately, I forgot to label “OnWard” as a 3D movie, so there haven’t been any votes yet. I’ll try not to forget in the future.

Also, it doesn’t differentiate between 3D and 3D/IMAX. But in my experience, it’s not worth seeing a movie in 3D unless its in 3D/IMAX. Just 3D is never good. 🙂
