All the Disney Princess Songs – with You Tube Clips

moana disney princess
Singing to water and/or birdies is a Disney Princess thing.

What is a Disney Princess wish-filled ” I Want” song? Notice how all the girls — and some of the guys, IE: Aladdin and Snow White’s Prince Charming — have a song full of exposition about their hopes and wishes? This was even parodied in Ralph Breaks The Internet in a genius scene where the Princesses talk about singing a song and looking into water, leading Vanellope to find a puddle and sing her own ” I Want” song.

I don’t know why Princess Vanellope isn’t a proper princess, but I suspect she’s just too young.

ralph breaks the internet and princess venelope
Wreck-It Ralph himself- proof one can be both zero and hero.

There’s one official Disney Princess that doesn’t have a song — can you guess who this is? (Merida from Brave.) Also, Elsa from Frozen is not considered an official Princess for Disney marketing reasons, but she SHOULD be a princess, jeez, and Anna too. Elsa’s ” I Want” song is award-winning and beloved by fans. So I’m adding it to this list. Also, I really think of Nala from The Lion King should be a Disney Princess. She’s mated to Simba, and it says he’s a King right in the movie title. So her song is here too.

I’m rewatching each song clip right now to see if they all sing to some form of water. Can you guess which songs don’t feature water? I’ll write the answer below!

With no further ado, here are the all Disney Princess wishing songs with their song clips from You Tube — enjoy!

Snow White – “I’m Wishing”

Cinderella – “A Dream Is a Wish Your Heart Makes”

Aurora – “I Wonder”

Ariel – “Part of Your World”

Belle – “Belle (reprise)”

Jasmine – “A Whole New World”

Nala – “Can You Feel The Love Tonight”

Pocahontas – “Just Around the Riverbend”

Mulan – “Reflection”

Tiana – “Almost There”

Rapunzel – “When Will My Life Begin”

Moana – “How Far I’ll Go”

Elsa – “Let it Go”

Vanellope – “A Place Called Slaughter Race”

So, who doesn’t sing to water?

Rapunzel, for one, unless you count paint. Belle doesn’t sing to any water in her song. Tiana doesn’t either, unless you count a pot of gumbo. I’m easy. Who else? Aurora and Cinderella only sing to birds, which is very “early Disney.”

Which I Want Princess songs are your favorites? Tell us in the comment section below. (I’ll tell you mine there to get started.)

Video – Opening Scene to La La Land (that amazing traffic jam dance)

emma stone and ryan gosling dance in la la land
I don’t buy their relationship, but they sure can dance.

It’s no secret I’m not a big fan of La La Land (as in, the movie. The city of Los Angeles is fine.) Mostly I think La La Land is a bit silly and overly sentimental. It won a lot of awards, but I just didn’t love it. (Thankfully, I didn’t have to do the Peetimes.)

Also, I think the character Ryan Gosling plays is a jerk, and the film’s ending is not my brand of bittersweet.

But…the opening number is REALLY something else. Jamming during a traffic  jam on a gridlocked Los Angeles bridge — under that bright blue California sky — is not only a charming idea, but the choreography is a showstopper.

Even if you’re not fond of movie musicals, this fantasy sequence is a pure winner. Too bad flash mobs don’t actually do this in real life! Here’s the entire video of the beginning scene that’s sure to bring a smile to your face:

Although I’d give this movie a B- myself, this dancing cold open deserves all the A plusses I can muster.

Movie Review – Yesterday

Movie Review - YesterdayThe only reason I didn’t give Yesterday an A+ is that, at least for now, I don’t think it’s as good as Love Actually both written by Richard Curtis — and both are very similar.

Yesterday checks all the boxes for a great film: it’s terribly well acted; the pacing rolls along with the right amount of ups and downs; the protagonist is challenged, and responds without resorting to cliche; and it has plenty of humor without trying too hard.

This is the product of a masterful writer who takes his time crafting a great story.

I don’t want to spoil it, in case you haven’t seen the movie yet, but I believe the penultimate scene, prior to the big concert, is one of the more poignant scenes in any movie. I still can’t stop thinking about the “what if’s.”

Yeah, I can’t wait to see this movie again.

Grade: A

About The Peetimes: I have three good Peetimes for you. I’d recommend the 2nd one since it’s around the middle of the movie and doesn’t have any humor or plot/character development. The timing for the 2nd and 3rd Peetimes may be just a little bit off since the power went out during my showing. Yes, seriously, the power went out for, I don’t know, about 12 seconds.

There are no extra scenes during, or after, the end credits of Yesterday. (What we mean by Anything Extra.)

Dumbo – Lyrics and Video to the Original Disney Classic Song Baby Mine

animated dumbo 1941 classic
Such a cutie. But the classic makes you cry. A lot.

If you don’t mind a having a little cry, watch this original 1941 version of the scene where infant Dumbo is too briefly reunited with mother Jumbo, locked in chains for the crime of protecting her only baby.

I can barely type this without tearing up, but it’s one of the most beautiful moments in Disney cinematic history. (Although the rest of Dumbo has some SERIOUS problems.)

But, anyway, here are the original video and lyrics of this film from Disney’s Classics Vault.

Seriously, I can’t write any more here without sobbing my heart out. But it’s breathtakingly worth it. I hope the Dumbo remake does it justice. But, hey, it’s Disney. They surely will. And it will probably make us cry. 🙂

Video and Lyrics to the 1941 Dumbo Classic, Baby Mine

Lyrics to the Original Version of Baby Mine

(Sung by Betty Noyes)

Baby mine, don’t you cry
Baby mine, dry your eyes
Rest your head close to my heart
Never to part
Baby of mine

Little one, when you play
Don’t you mind what they say
Let those eyes sparkle and shine
Never a tear
Baby of mine

From your head to your toes (Baby mine)
You’re so sweet, goodness knows (Baby mine)
You are so precious to me
Cute as can be
Baby of mine

Baby mine

Zero Song – Video & Lyrics from Ralph Breaks the Internet

ralph breaks the internet and princess venelope
Wreck-It Ralph himself – proof one can be both zero and hero.

Ralph Breaks the Internet, the lovable sequel to Wreck-It Ralph, plays almost like a Disney princess musical, which it kind of is, as an affectionate parody Disney surprisingly put forth in a very meta manner. (Disney having a sense of humor about themselves floored me in almost every way.)

It’s pretty catchy, but not the worst earworm ever: that award has to go to the aptly-named Catchy Song from The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part.

Here’s the charming 8-bit end credit video and movie lyrics from Zero, by Imagine Dragons:

Zero

(Sung by Imagine Dragons)

I find it hard to say the things I want to say the most
Find a little bit of steady as I get close
Find a balance in the middle of the chaos
Send me low, send me high, send me never demigod
I remember walking in the cold of November
Hoping that I make it to the end of December
27 years and the end of my mind
But holding to the thought of another time
But looking to the ways at the ones before me
Looking for the path of the young and lonely
I don’t want to hear about what to do
I don’t want to do it just to do it for you

Hello, hello
Let me tell you what it’s like to be a zero, zero
Let me show you what it’s like to always feel, feel
Like I’m empty and there’s nothing really real, real
I’m looking for a way out
Hello, hello
Let me tell you what it’s like to be a zero, zero
Let me show you what it’s like to never feel, feel
Like I’m good enough for anything that’s real, real
I’m looking for a way out

I find it hard to tell you how I want to run away
I understand it always makes you feel a certain way
I find a balance in the middle of the chaos
Send me up, send me down, send me never demigod
I remember walkin’ in the heat of the summer
Wide-eyed one with a mind full of wonder
27 years and I’ve nothing to show
Falling from the doves to the dark of the crow
Looking to the ways of the ones before me
Looking for the path of the young and lonely
I don’t want to hear about what to do, no
I don’t want to do it just to do it for you

Hello, hello
Let me tell you what it’s like to be a zero, zero
Let me show you what it’s like to always feel, feel
Like I’m empty and there’s nothing really real, real
I’m looking for a way out
Hello, hello
Let me tell you what it’s like to be a zero, zero
Let me show you what it’s like to never feel, feel
Like I’m good enough for anything that’s real, real
I’m looking for a way out

Let me tell you ’bout it, well let me tell you ’bout it
Maybe you’re the same as me
Let me tell you ’bout it, well let me tell you ’bout it
They say the truth will set you free

Hello, hello
Let me tell you what it’s like to be a zero, zero
Let me show you what it’s like to always feel, feel
Like I’m empty and there’s nothing really real, real
I’m looking for a way out
Hello, hello
Let me tell you what it’s like to be a zero, zero
Let me show you what it’s like to never feel, feel
Like I’m good enough for anything that’s real, real
I’m looking for a way out

By the way, Ralph Breaks the Internet is up for an Oscar for Best Animated Picture for the 2019 Oscars. It’s a very enjoyable romp, even if you never saw the original movie. Also up for consideration: The Incredibles 2, Isle of Dogs, Mirai, and Into The Spider-Verse. My money is on Spider-Verse, because it is that awesome, but each one of these are absolutely worthy.

All The Stars – End Credits Song from Black Panther – Video and Lyrics

black panther and king T'Challa
All The Stars from Black Panther is one hell of a great song.

Up for Best Original Song at the Oscars this year, All The Stars from Black Panther is looking very good. It’s up against the big contender Shallow from A Star Is Born, but it could certainly bring in a win if the Academy sees fit to go in a different direction from their usual drama-type film awards. All The Stars is a great song — very inspiring — and while I’m biased by being a total science fiction geek, I’d love to see something in my genre of choice actually win this time.

Here’s that gorgeous Black Panther end credits video, and the lyrics from All The Stars, just to get you excited and happy. You’re welcome. 🙂

All The Stars

(Sung by Kendrick Lamar, SZA)

Love, let’s talk about love
Is it anything and everything you hoped for?
Or do the feeling haunt you?
I know the feeling haunt you

This maybe the night that my dreams might let me know
All the stars are closer, all the stars are closer, all the stars are closer
This maybe the night that my dreams might let me know
All the stars are closer, all the stars are closer, all the stars are closer

Tell me what you gon’ do to me
Confrontation ain’t nothin’ new to me
You can bring a bullet, bring a sword
Bring a morgue, but you can’t bring the truth to me
Fuck you and all your expectations
I don’t even want your congratulations
I recognize your false confidence and calculated promises all in your conversation
I hate people that feel entitled
Look at me crazy ’cause I ain’t invite you
Oh, you important?
You the moral to the story, you endorsing?
Motherfucker, I don’t even like you
Corrupt a man’s heart with a gift
That’s how you find out who you dealin’ with
A small percentage, who I’m building with
I want the credit if I’m losing or I’m winning
On my momma that’s the realest shit

Girl, let’s talk about love
Is it anything and everything you hoped for?
Or do the feeling haunt you?
I know the feeling haunt you

This maybe the night that my dreams might let me know
All the stars are closer, all the stars are closer, all the stars are closer
This maybe the night that my dreams might let me know
All the stars are closer, all the stars are closer, all the stars are closer

Skin covered in ego
Get to talkin’, I get involved, like a rebound
No control, no off switch in the way that you bringing me down
It’s a turn on, get it away from me
Know you mean wrong, keep away from me
And it’s all wrong, get it away from me, yeah
I just cry for no reason, I just pray for no reason
I just thank for the life, for the day, for the hours and another life breathin’
I did it all ’cause it feel good
You could live it all if you feel bad
Better live your life
We are running out of time

Love, let’s talk about love
Is it anything and everything you hoped for?
Or do the feeling haunt you?
I know the feeling haunt you

This maybe the night that my dreams might let me know
All the stars are closer, all the stars are closer, all the stars are closer
This maybe the night that my dreams might let me know
All the stars are closer, all the stars are closer, all the stars are closer…

A Black Perspective on Marvel’s Black Panther

How to Dress Like You’re From Wakanda in Black Panther

Main Song from A Star Is Born – Video and Lyrics from Shallow – by Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper

lady gaga and bradley cooper in a star is born
Not a shallow song.

One of the top movie hits from 2018 is A Star is Born, starring Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper, and their best film song is Shallow, a duet that slays everyone who hears it. It’s almost a perfect song, and it won the awards to prove it:

  • Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song
  • Grammy Award for Best Song Written for Visual Media
  • Grammy Award for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance
  • Critics’ Choice Movie Award for Best Song
Shallow also got an Oscar nod for Best Original Song, and the movie itself, A Star is Born, is nominated for seven other different Oscars: Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor, Best Cinematography, Best Adapted Screenplay, and Best Sound Mixing

It was also announced by the Oscars Academy (via Twitter) that Lady Gaga & Bradley Cooper will perform Shallow at the 2019 Oscars. All the news sources say Copper will perform in a tuxedo as himself, and not as his character Jackson Maine. IndieWire says “Cooper doesn’t intend to bring back Jackson’s deep voice either as he said he has fully retired the character.” No matter. Lady Gaga will probably do her big extravagantly costumed persona as herself. Expect the song to bring down the house!

Here’s the movie video of their on-stage duet of Shallow, followed by the lyrics for you to learn, and sing along to in the privacy of your shower:

Shallow

(Sung by  Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga)

Tell me somethin’, girl
Are you happy in this modern world?
Or do you need more?
Is there somethin’ else you’re searchin’ for?

I’m falling
In all the good times I find myself
Longin’ for change
And in the bad times I fear myself

Tell me something, boy
Aren’t you tired tryin’ to fill that void?
Or do you need more?
Ain’t it hard keeping it so hardcore?

I’m falling
In all the good times I find myself
Longing for change
And in the bad times I fear myself
I’m off the deep end, watch as I dive in
I’ll never meet the ground
Crash through the surface, where they can’t hurt us
We’re far from the shallow now

In the shallow, shallow
In the shallow, shallow
In the shallow, shallow
We’re far from the shallow now

Oh, oh, oh, oh
Whoah!

I’m off the deep end, watch as I dive in
I’ll never meet the ground
Crash through the surface, where they can’t hurt us
We’re far from the shallow now

In the shallow, shallow
In the shallow, shallow
In the shallow, shallow
We’re far from the shallow now…

In Da Club by 50 Cent – Video & Lyrics from the Happy Death Day 2U Trailer

happy death day 2 U is a horror sequel
Hey, it’s your birthday…again!

Happy Death Day is the most funny and outright cute horror film I’ve ever seen. It’s not scary at all (although the school mascot baby mask is genuinely hideous to behold.) I can’t believe I waited this long to watch it the first time. I wanted to get caught up on my Groundhog Day themed movies, and heard Happy Death Day 2U was coming along soon. I made the time, and just loved it. I can’t wait for the sequel this week!

In the meantime, this is the trailer song for both movies. I was definitely bummed In Da Club didn’t make it into the actual film. (Her ‘real’ birthday ringtone is much more annoying. I’ll add the link for that song below, just to illustrate the difference.) So this film does fall under the Misleading Trailers category, at least musically. Maybe In Da Club will make it into the sequel. I’ll know in two days.

Here’s the video and lyrics from In Da Club:

In Da Club (Happy Birthday Song) [EXPLICIT]

(Song by 50 Cent)

Go, go, go, go go, go, go, shawty
It’s your birthday
We gon’ party like it’s yo birthday
We gon’ sip Bacardi like it’s your birthday
And you know we don’t give a fuck
It’s not your birthday!

You can find me in the club, bottle full of bub
Look mami I got the X if you into taking drugs
I’m into having sex, I ain’t into making love
So come give me a hug if you into to getting rubbed

You can find me in the club, bottle full of bub
Look mami I got the X if you into taking drugs
I’m into having sex, I ain’t into making love
So come give me a hug if you into to getting rubbed

When I pull out up front, you see the Benz on dubs
When I roll twenty deep, it’s twenty knives in the club
Niggas heard I fuck with Dre, now they want to show me love
When you sell like Eminem, and the hoes they want to fuck
But homie ain’t nothing change hold down, G’s up
I see Xzibit in the Cutt that nigga roll that weed up
If you watch how I move you’ll mistake me for a player or pimp
Been hit wit a few shells but I don’t walk wit a limp
In the hood then the ladies saying “50 you hot”
They like me, I want them to love me like they love ‘Pac
But holla in New York them niggas’ll tell ya I’m loco
And the plan is to put the rap game in a choke hold
I’m feelin’ focused man, my money on my mind
I got a mill out the deal and I’m still on the grind
Now shawty said she feeling my style, she feeling my flow
Her girlfriend want to get bi and they ready to go
You can find me in the club, bottle full of bub

Look mami I got the X if you into taking drugs
I’m into having sex, I ain’t into making love
So come give me a hug if you into to getting rubbed

You can find me in the club, bottle full of bub
Look mami I got the X if you into taking drugs
I’m into having sex, I ain’t into making love
So come give me a hug if you into to getting rubbed

My flow, my show brought me the dough
That bought me all my fancy things
My crib, my cars, my pools, my jewels
Look, nigga, I came up and I ain’t changed

And you should love it, way more then you hate it
Nigga you mad? I thought that you’d be happy I made it
I’m that cat by the bar toasting to the good life
You that fagot ass nigga trying to pull me back right?
When my junk get to pumping in the club it’s on
I wink my eye at ya bitch, if she smiles she gone
If the roof on fire, let the motherfucker burn
If you talking bout money homie, I ain’t concerned
I’m a tell you what Banks told me cause go ‘head switch the style up
If the niggas hate then let ’em hate
Watch the money pile up
Or we go upside there wit a bottle of bub
You know where we fucking be

You can find me in the club, bottle full of bub
Look mami I got the X if you into taking drugs
I’m into having sex, I ain’t into making love
So come give me a hug if you into to getting rubbed

You can find me in the club, bottle full of bub
Look mami I got the X if you into taking drugs
I’m into having sex, I ain’t into making love
So come give me a hug if you into to getting rubbed

Don’t try to act like you ain’t know where we been either, nigga
In the club all the time, nigga, so it’s a problem pop off, nigga, G-Unit!

Lego Movie 2 – Video and Lyrics to Everything’s Not Awesome

Elizabeth-Banks-as-Lucy
Lucy, being moodily awesome.

I was surprised how pleasantly musical the second official Lego movie was, with at least three, and perhaps four, really cheerily/moodily stand-out hits. The original Lego Movie only had the one notable Everything is Awesome tune. It was such an earworm that WB execs clearly decided to build on that base for the continuing adventures of Emmet and Gang.

The sweetest, least potentially irritating Lego song is this new version of the original Awesome pop hit. (Unlike, say, Catchy Song…)

Here’s a video to the Lego sequel’s soulful reprise of Everything is Awesome, both stirringly bleak and sneakily hopeful.  (So far I only can find an audio version, as the movie JUST came out. I’ll add a movie clip when it’s available):

Lyrics to Everything’s Not Awesome

[Chorus] Everything’s not awesome
Everything’s not cool
I am so depressed
Everything’s not awesome

[Verse] Whoa, I think I finally get Radiohead
Bro, you should check out Elliot Smith
What’s the point? There’s no hope
Awesomeness was a pipedream
Aye, my spirits be at the bottom of the sea
Love’s not real, I just wanna eat carbs, pass the ice cream
I am not a thing you can just use to fill emotional voids with
Stop, everyone, okay, just listen

[Chorus] Everything’s not awesome
But that doesn’t mean that it’s hopeless and bleak
Everything’s not awesome
But in my heart, I believe (I believe)

[Bridge] We can make things better if we stick together (If we stick together)
Side by side, you and I, we will build it together (Yeah, we’ll be together)
Build it together (Together forever)
All together now

[Refrain] This song’s gonna get stuck inside your
This song’s gonna get stuck inside your
This song’s gonna get stuck inside your
This song’s gonna get stuck inside your
Heart

[Chorus] Everything’s not awesome
Things can’t be awesome all of the time
It’s an unrealistic expectation
But that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t try
To make everything awesome
In a less idealistic kind of way.
We should maybe aim for not bad
cuz not bad right now would be real great

[Bridge] Everything is better when we stick together (We stick together)
Side by side, you and I, we will sing it together (Always together)
Party forever (Together)

[Refrain] This song’s gonna get stuck inside your
This song’s gonna get stuck inside your
Heart…
