You want to become a Peep? (That’s what we call people who work for RunPee.) Here’s the gist of what we need and how the training process goes.
First and foremost, no one is going to get rich from RunPee. Not even me. If you’ve seen the Full Transparency-RunPee app income and expenses post, then you know that I make enough to pay the bills, and I’m still crawling out of the debt from 2020-2022 due to COVID and RunPee had essentially zero income.
I pay Peeps $50/movie to do the Peetimes and write a movie review. If you factor in travel time to and from a theater, watching the movie, writing the Peetimes and review, it probably comes out to about $10/hr.

But that’s okay, you think. I get paid to watch a movie.
Well, about that. Finding Peetimes for a movie is work, and it’s distracting to the actual enjoyment of the movie. And the better the movie is, the more distracting it is to find Peetimes.
You’re still here?
I haven’t scared you away yet? Okay, then. Let’s continue.
I hope you enjoy sitting in the back-right corner of a movie theater, because that’s where we sit. That’s because we have a notepad in our lap and use our left hand to hold our phone, giving off just enough illumination so we can see our notes without bothering anyone else in the theater.
Peetime Training
That’s the setup for finding Peetimes, but first, you have to learn how to do the job.
What people are saying
about the RunPee app.
Water drinkers unite
Run pee is the best app for people who find themselves needing to pee a lot but also not wanting to miss any action. The app gives you the best times to use the bathroom during a movie while also telling you when to leave and which lines to listen for! It not only gives you the time you should go pee, but it also explains to you what is happening during the break. I helped I use this app every time I go to the movies now. My god father recommended this app to 5 years ago and it’s been in my phone ever since! Highly recommended.

I usually start by asking Peeps-in-training to pick some of their favorite movies, the ones that they’ve seen so many times you can almost quote every line. It helps to watch a movie that you already know so that as you weigh your decision of which scenes would make the best Peetimes, you can judge it against the context of the entire movie—something you can’t do in practice, but it’s okay to cheat in training. 🙂
Early in your training, you don’t need to go nuts and try to make production-level Peetimes. It’s good enough to write down the start-end time, the cue that starts the Peetime, and a very brief synopsis. You might also think about why this(these) scenes vs other scenes. We begin looking for Peetimes about 15 minutes into a movie and our goal is to find the first Peetime before the 30 minute point. This is so that people who enjoy watching all of the movie trailers, which let’s face it, take up 20+ minutes, won’t have to “hold it” for more than 40-60 minutes.
Each Peetime should be at least 2m:30s minutes long, at a minimum. We prefer that Peetimes are around 3m to 3m30s.
During a movie, we try to have a Peetime for every 20-40 minutes of the runtime, until we find the last Peetime. When finding Peetimes, it’s crucial to know how long the movie is so that you can stop looking for Peetimes within the 20-40 minutes to the end. There’s no point in having a Peetime 10 minutes before the end of the movie.
Now, these are just goals, not rules. Not all movies cooperate. 🙂
At this stage, it’s very handy if you can watch movies for which I did the Peetimes. After you’re done, you can go to the app and see my Peetimes, and then we can discuss the pros/cons of mine vs yours.
Once you feel comfortable with the Peetime process at home, you’ll graduate to in-theater training. At this point, the goal is for both of us to watch the same movie, obviously not together unless you happen to live in Asheville, NC. We’ll both do our Peetimes independently and then have a conversation to compare.
At this stage, it’s a matter of rinse-and-repeat until we both feel comfortable with the Peetimes you produce. At which point you’ll be assigned movies without backup.
Sorry to say that training isn’t paid. I wish I could, but I just don’t have the money for that. But as soon as you watch movies independently, you’ll get paid for each movie as soon as you turn in your movie review. There’s no, waiting until the end of the month. I’ll pay as you complete your work.
