Downton Abbey: A New Era

The latest escapades of the Grantham family and the army of servants that look after them. Our Jilly went along to see how it was and called it “a beautiful mess.” Also, as it’s proven to be quite popular, we thought it might be fun to spend a bit of time looking at all things Downtony!

Downton Abbey (2019)

Back in 2019, the first Downton Abbey film was released and our resident Downton fan Jilly went along to catch up with the sprawling cast of characters and their massive estate. Here’s an opportunity to see what she thought of the show moving from ‘quaint British TV series’ to the international big leagues.

Grade: A-

What You Need To Know To Watch The Downton Abbey Films

Before the films, there were six seasons of the Downton Abbey TV series. Not to panic though, these were British seasons — so it’s only fifty-two episodes. However, can you dive straight in without a bit of research? Worry not! This article tells you all you need to know to get up to speed before taking your seat in the cinema.

How To Watch The TV Episodes Of Downton Abbey?

Some people might prefer to watch binge everything for themselves. We’ve got some deets.

Gosford Park (2001)

Before Downton Abbey, Julian Fellowes wrote a comedic murder mystery set in a stately home during the early part of the twentieth century. Is it a trial run for Downton? Maybe, maybe not. Rest assured, it has the same pedigree, so there won’t be too many surprises or disappointments.

Grade: A

Best of Brit: The Dame Maggie Smith

What links Downton Abbey on both the large and small screens AND Gosford Park? None other than the very wonderful Maggie Smith.

Men (2022)
Towards the end of the movie, the last twenty minutes in fact, I leaned over and asked my husband if he had perhaps slipped acid or LSD in my drink. These were some of the craziest, messed up, brain-bending scenes I’ve ever witnessed, and I’ve been around the block a time or two.

Grade: WTF
