Warner Brothers announced that Wonder Woman 1984 will be released simultaneously in theaters and streaming on HBO Max starting Christmas Day. Under normal circumstances theaters would never go for this, but these are hardly normal circumstances.

But, what if they were?

Many people wonder how the movie entertainment industry will adapt to the new-normal in a post COVID19 world. We here at RunPee are certainly affected by this, but ultimately nothing will really change what we do. It’s just a matter of how much money RunPee will make. Whether theaters survive or not, we’ll be doing our job to bring you Peetimes.

Best app ever!

RunPee is the only app we use before movies and afterward. not only does RunPee tell you when it’s a good time to leave the theater, kids these days ask if there’s anything during/after the credits, and RunPee lets parents know when there might be some thing that a kid might miss!

RunPee has tidbits, ratings, leave the theater times, and lengths. This is THE VITAL APP for watching any movie!

    By choice I would prefer to see films in a cinema at least once.

    However, that is my only option as HBO Max isn’t available outside the USA so, really, I don’t have a choice.

    Having said that, there are always people who are prepared to pay for access to HBO Max and then make them available as a dodgy download, usually within 24 hours of release. So…

    You could also get a VPN. That might give you access to HBO Max.

    I personally do not like this (HAving movies come out on streaming and theaters) I (before all this) use to go and see 1 movie a week, it was my get away time and I guess you would say my addiction, (I do not drink, smoke or anything so this was my habit) I do not like seeing movies that I have not seen at the theaters on my TV, even as I have a 60″ TV the feeling is not the same as a theater and can never be no matter what. But a question I have is that Warner Brothers said they will do this for all movies coming out in 2021 (Online and in theaters) Now HOW can a big budget movie make any money, HBO max said they will not charge extra for the new movies (Like Disney does $30 to see a movie PLUS the price of Disney Plus, no thank you) so since the theaters are almost shut down it will only make MAYBE $20-$30 Million and for free on HBO Max (after a paid subscription) how is a $100 plus Million dollar movie able to make money, I fear this will make Movie companies NOT make big budget movies, as who would spend that much money to make less then half. Sure maybe in the long run with DVD’s , toys and such they might get it back, but if they continue I fear it will not only hurt the theaters, places like Runpee, and even the movies themselfs. I want to see Wonder Woman so bad, but I would be will to wait 5 – 6 months to see it in a theater again, then have it lead to the downfall of so much

    Hey Michael. Those are really good concerns. I wonder about the financials as well. I have to think that HBO Max gave them a huge incentive to make this deal. It will bring them a lot of new subscribers. (I know I’ll be one because until I’m vaccinated I’d rather see a movie at home.)

    It’s kind of the same thing as how the Movie Ticket Subscription businesses work. On the face of it it seems like a losing proposition — for the business. But who knows what’s going on in their closed financial books.

    What really surprises me is the duration of the deal — for the whole year. I could see making the deal for the first half of 2021, but by summer I think we’ll have enough people vaccinated that most everything will be back to normal. At least I certainly hope it is.

    I know I feel the same way, and I am one of those movie ticket subscribers (Regal) and that is why I use to see at least one movie a week, and since they closed they have suspended everyone’s account as no one can see a movie at their theaters, but once I see they are going to open and if the virus rates are still high, I will have to cancel as I will not want to go, but if the rates are low I will go and see them in the theaters even if they are on HBO Max (But one movie I did not see on the list maybe because it is only going to be on HBO Max is the Zack Synder Justice League, I would REALLY like to see that as call me a nut but I did enjoy the Joss Weadon one)

    I’m curious how long it took the world to return to normalcy after the 1918 Spanish Flu pandemic. We might be able to learn something for today’s era about psychological aftermaths.

    I’m not sure what happened 103 years ago really applies to today’s modern world. I’m sure we’re in for a decade of lasting effects, at least.
