And so we come to the final part of Russ Meyer’s Vixen trilogy… Beneath The Valley Of The Ultravixens. We’re ten years on from the opening and things have changed. When Vixen! was released it was among the first US films to be given one of the new X certificates because of its sexual content. Nowadays, people raised on copious amounts of free internet porn would find it pretty tame fair indeed. The sexual content of Vixen! was limited to bare boobs, bottoms, and people in various levels of undress bouncing up and down on each other. No close ups…no genitals at all in fact.
Ten years later and things have changed. Beneath The Valley Of The Ultravixens has indeed moved on. We’re still only looking like a trailer for a modern day porn film though. There are scenes of full frontal nudity both male and female. Warning…1979 was an era of long, luscious pubic hair…long enough that there are scenes of hair brushing and combing. There are also real penises on display, rather than the enormous artificial ones in his earlier offerings, and it is still some time before erections make it to the mainstream. While you do get to see all the individual bits and pieces, you don’t see them…interacting.

Lola Langusta…
So Beneath The Valley Of The Ultravixens is an old style smut film. The men are occasionally undressed while the women are nearly always naked. These are the defining characteristics of the Vixen trilogy along with the exceptionally pneumatic nature of those previously mentioned women. A difference is that, during the interim years, breast enlargement became more affordable and more accessible. As a result some of the women portrayed are definitely sporting artificial breasts of the BB variety…as in Beach Ball. Even now, I struggle with an appreciation of fake frontages even though they are improving in appearance; give me natural every time.
Anyway, huge breasts aside, what is the story running through Beneath The Valley Of The Ultravixens? In fact, is there a story running through Beneath The Valley Of The Ultravixens? Well…sort of. If you have read any reviews of Russ Meyer’s films there are usually mentions of his satirical threads and undercurrents. I think that I must have been brought up on a different type of satire. In the UK, the 1979 satire scene mainly centred around attacks on the newly elected Margaret Thatcher’s Conservative government. In the USA it seemed to centre on small town America and the sexual shenanigans that took place. According to Mr Meyer, anyway.
Practitioner Of The Black Sock
The story, such as it is, is narrated by The Man From Small Town USA (Stuart Lancaster). The first people we are introduced to is evangelical radio preacher Eufaula Roop (Ann Marie) who has breasts from the early days of enhancement surgery and a penchant for sex in a coffin. There’s a housewife just known as The Very Big Blonde (Candy Samples) and a scrap yard owner called Junkyard Sal (June Mack) who has some rather strange employees. Finally we meet Lamar Shed (Ken Kerr) and his wife Lavonia (Kitten Natividad). Sadly Lavonia is the only woman in the history of porn who doesn’t enjoy anal sex while Lamar can only get aroused doing…guess what?
I think that is enough to give you the flavour of rest of Beneath The Valley Of The Ultravixens. It is one long series of excuses for the women in the cast to get their breasts out. For some reason Beneath The Valley Of The Ultravixens seems to be a lot older than the end of the seventies. Considering Kramer vs Kramer, Manhattan, Alien, The China Syndrome, Mad Max, and Star Trek: The Motion Picture all came out in the same year, Beneath The Valley Of The Ultravixens feels like it belongs in the same decade as Vixen!…pubic hair notwithstanding.
And so concludes the release of the first three films in the restoration collaboration between Severin films and the Russ Meyer Trust. Beneath The Valley Of The Ultravixens is part of the newly restored Vixen trilogy released on 20th January 2025 by Severin Films.

Water drinkers unite
Run pee is the best app for people who find themselves needing to pee a lot but also not wanting to miss any action. The app gives you the best times to use the bathroom during a movie while also telling you when to leave and which lines to listen for! It not only gives you the time you should go pee, but it also explains to you what is happening during the break. I helped I use this app every time I go to the movies now. My god father recommended this app to 5 years ago and it’s been in my phone ever since! Highly recommended.
