Movie Review – The Rhythm Section

Read Time:2 Minute, 17 Second

Movie Review - The Rhythm SectionI can certainly say The Rhythm Section is much better than I expected. But then, I wasn’t expecting much.

What I liked the most

The action is gritty and real. This isn’t one of those movies where the 100lb woman beats the crap out of three body guards because she’s a bad ass. This is one of those movies where she gets tossed around like a rag doll and has to struggle to survive every encounter. She’s over powered in every fight and every blow feels real.

Also, each character who fights is fighting for their lives. There isn’t too much killing in this movie, but they make every character real. Too often we see the good guy kill the bad guy pawns too easily, and then the pawns always die quickly and quietly. It always irks me when a henchman gets shot in the belly and just falls down dead because they’re not a named character. That doesn’t happen in this movie.

Beyond that, even though Blake Lively’s character, Stephanie Patrick, is out for revenge, she still struggles with killing. Again, it feels real. She doesn’t become a killing machine. She still has her morals.

I especially enjoyed the short chase scene in the movie. It was filmed by a camera person sitting in the passenger’s seat holding a camera by hand. We can feel every turn, every bump, and every collision, which violently shakes the camera… As if we were the one sitting in the passenger’s seat.

What I didn’t like so much

It never felt like this was a movie where there was anything to figure out. Stephanie is given missions to kill people, all of whom are in some way, conveniently, connected to her revenge. But in the end it turns out there was an underlying plot that wasn’t revealed — even though it was a little cliched. I think it would have served better if it were obvious that there’s something to figure out as Stephanie goes on her revenge tour.

I’d normally give this movie a middling C-grade, except I really enjoyed the realism of the action, which is almost always done poorly in this genre. Because of that, and Blake Lively’s performance, I’ll give it a B.

Grade: B

About The Peetimes: I highly recommend the 2nd — middle — Peetime. That’s an easy scene to miss that doesn’t involve any character or plot development. The 1st Peetime is good, but dramatic. The 3rd Peetime is horrible and should only be used in an emergency.

There are no extra scenes during, or after, the end credits of The Rhythm Section. (What we mean by Anything Extra.)

Movie Watching Must Have!!

I go feral for this app. I love it so much and I wish everyone knew about it and used it. It is incredibly useful and I would be devastated if this app ever disappeared. Things I love: 1) the pee times! Itโ€™s so handy to know the best time to go and then read the synopsis of whatโ€™s happening while Iโ€™m gone. I never have to worry about missing the good bits! 2) knowing if there is a post-credits scene or not. This might be my fav feature because I would have missed out on some pretty critical scenes if it werenโ€™t for RunPee. 3) the movie review and viewer rankings. This info has made me watch some movies that I normally wouldnโ€™t and itโ€™s nice seeing things outside of my usual scope. 4) that itโ€™s a small family run business. I love shopping small and it really does feel like Iโ€™m part of the RunPee family! If you reach out to them, Dan will personally respond to you and he is so warm and helpful. GET THIS APP AND THEN SUBSCRIBE! It is absolutely worth it and youโ€™ll be using it again and again!
