Movie Review – Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway

peter-rabbit-2_header

This charming sequel is just as fun as the first. Peter is still a mischievous little bunny, but he wants to be better. A good morality story is intertwined with wild antics to keep the kiddies entertained. But make no mistake, this is a kiddy movie. There’s not much to entertain older kids and adults.

Plot (Spoilers)
The sequel to the 2018 film, ‘Peter Rabbit’. After the marriage of Bea and Thomas along with the release of the acclaimed novel based on the adventures of Peter and his friends, Peter is feeling like everyone only sees him as rebellious. So, when Bea and Thomas decide to go on a trip, Peter sees this as an opportunity to go on the run.

Grade: B

About The Peetimes: I had some technical difficulties with my new phone. The 1st Peetime should be spot on, but the 2nd might be off by 30 seconds or so.

  1. I remember not being interested enough in Peter Rabbit one, which is unusual, since normally I like kid movies. But thinking it through, I like modern kid movies, the ones with enough interest, humor, Easter eggs and emotional intelligence to have something for all ages to enjoy.

That so very many modern animated and ‘children’s’ movies are so good is really a testament to good filmmaking.

Look at Pixar. I can still watch *Finding Nemo* over and over and find new things. “Just keep swimming” is amazing advice. Realizing the person you love can be ‘what home is’ is profound. The lines MINE MINE MINE from the seagulls still cracks me up. Two days ago I was walking on the beach with my sister and we started yelling MINE to the seagulls…not bad for a 2003 kiddie cartoon about fish.

  2. Peter Rabbit 2 was the return to the cinema film for us. I’d promised Alice that we could go back to the cinema when they reopened and this was her choice.

She loved it and I think there might be repeat viewings!

  3. Rob, did you think they had enough details adults would enjoy, or is this really just a straight up kid flick?

I’ll also add the Trolls World Tour surprised me. Some really cracked out humor and subversive, mature themes in the entire film! It wasn’t just colors and songs.

Not that all movies have to address the interest of grownups, but I like the direction it’s been heading among Disney, Pixar, and Dreamworks. Sony (which Peter Rabbit is) is catching up too but mostly has a way to go.
