I’m a big fan of the Monsterverse. I have enjoyed all of them, usually more than I expected. But this is probably the worst of all of the Monsterverse movies so far. I’m not saying it was bad. But I just didn’t feel the awesome that all of the other movies somehow managed to capture here and there.
I hope the franchise isn’t running out of steam. I’d really like to see more of this universe, but I wonder what they can do to recapture the magic that it once had. It could be that I feel this way because I was trying to find Peetimes during the movie while also trying to enjoy it, but this is the situation for every movie I see in the theater.

Distant Action
It’s hard to describe, but it felt like the fight scenes were more distant in this movie. They just didn’t pack the emotional punch that is common in many of the other Monsterverse movies. Take for instance the fight between Godzilla and Tiamat. That should have been a pretty big deal, but it was over in 30 seconds. It’s like the director felt that Godzilla had somewhere better to be so let’s just cut to the end of this fight.
Characters
Where the monsters in this movie were a bit of a letdown, I think the script does a slightly better job with the human characters. Not all of the Monsterverse movies have well-written characters but most of them are more than adequate. This one isn’t that much different. There was good dialog without getting too bogged down in human plot development. I think that was the biggest problem that plagued Godzilla vs King Kong.
Grade: C-
About The Peetimes: I think the 1st Peetime is easily the best. The second Peetime is pretty good. The third isn’t bad, but it’s the worst of the bunch. Note: The second Peetime has a visual cue and I’m not certain I the start time is exactly right. If I did please let me know. ([email protected])
