DownhillI loved this movie. It was absolutely not the normal Will Ferrell comedy I was expecting. I love his comedies: Step Brothers is in my top 5 movies, but this wasn’t remotely like that. It was great in so many different ways.

Here’s a heads up first: don’t go expecting a comedy. I mean there were a few moments that the situation was funny, but the overall movie is basically the gritty way life ends up if you become complacent and lose yourself as an individual during a marriage.

Julia Louis-Dreyfus did such a fantastic job that she was the showstopper. I could feel everything she was going through: she delivers a performance that was so true and so dead on correct that it gave me a whole new respect for her. That lady can act.

You feel throughout this entire movie; you feel for Pete; you feel for Billie; and you feel for the kids. The movie showcased what each individual was going through and what the family was going through together as a unit. A terribly broken unit, but a family unit nonetheless.

I was riveted the entire time and the ending blew me away. What Billie ends up doing was so amazing that it gave me chills. I highly recommend this movie. More so to those of us over 40. It’ll really hit home with that age group. I’m not sure that the 30 and younger crowd have really started dealing with these issues yet, so it’s probably not for them.

Grade: A+

About The Peetimes: I only picked 1 Peetime since the run time is so short. Luckily, I found a great one that misses the amazing parts that make this movie really shine.

There are no extra scenes during, or after, the end credits of Downhill. (What we mean by Anything Extra.)

Rated (R) for language and some sexual material
Genres: Comedy, Drama

Is there anything extra during the end credits of Downhill?

Movie Watching Must Have!!

I go feral for this app. I love it so much and I wish everyone knew about it and used it. It is incredibly useful and I would be devastated if this app ever disappeared. Things I love: 1) the pee times! It’s so handy to know the best time to go and then read the synopsis of what’s happening while I’m gone. I never have to worry about missing the good bits! 2) knowing if there is a post-credits scene or not. This might be my fav feature because I would have missed out on some pretty critical scenes if it weren’t for RunPee. 3) the movie review and viewer rankings. This info has made me watch some movies that I normally wouldn’t and it’s nice seeing things outside of my usual scope. 4) that it’s a small family run business. I love shopping small and it really does feel like I’m part of the RunPee family! If you reach out to them, Dan will personally respond to you and he is so warm and helpful. GET THIS APP AND THEN SUBSCRIBE! It is absolutely worth it and you’ll be using it again and again!

Glad you liked this movie but never could decide if they were trying to make it a comedy or a drama. Did nothing for my wife or I and would not recommend it to my friends.

  2. Odd movie. I felt like it was 1.5 hours of incomplete sentences. Father grief, infidelity, Personal reaction to events, interaction with kids, it just seemed like incomplete plot development. Maybe something you’d talk to your therapist or girlfriends about over dinner or drinks but not much substance for a movie experience. Meh.
