Really disappointing, especially as I liked Kenneth Branagh’s Murder on the Orient Express (2017) so very much. As in Orient, Death on the Nile is fabulously scenic and lush, with a great cast that seems to be trying to make a better movie out of this.
Maybe at two hours and seven minutes, the movie is just too long for what needed to happen. It’s not a long murder mystery in the first place. The Hercule Poirot character, granted, is a huge talker, but everything became so long-winded this time out, and not in the charming way encountered in Orient. Well, not mostly. Death on the Nile isn’t a bad movie; it’s just not quite good.

Recommendation: If you’re serious about not being spoiled by the mystery’s ending, certainly see this now. The sophisticated steamboat setting alone is pretty amazing, not to mention…well…it’s like a trip to Egypt. But really: if you haven’t been spoiled by the original Agatha Christie novel (1937) or the previous Nile movie (1978), then you might be safe.

About The Peetimes: Update: I’ve got 3 Peetimes up, nicely spaced. This is a long movie with tons of talking/possible clues. The main character is a huge talker, as fans of Hercule Poirot know. Try to use the first 2 Peetimes.

Movie Watching Must Have!!
I go feral for this app. I love it so much and I wish everyone knew about it and used it. It is incredibly useful and I would be devastated if this app ever disappeared. Things I love: 1) the pee times! It’s so handy to know the best time to go and then read the synopsis of what’s happening while I’m gone. I never have to worry about missing the good bits! 2) knowing if there is a post-credits scene or not. This might be my fav feature because I would have missed out on some pretty critical scenes if it weren’t for RunPee. 3) the movie review and viewer rankings. This info has made me watch some movies that I normally wouldn’t and it’s nice seeing things outside of my usual scope. 4) that it’s a small family run business. Plot

I liked the film….it was, however, easier to figure out before the reveal than was Orient Express a few years ago…if I recall correctly, Orient Express had a crucial clue that wasn’t revealed until Poirot’s reveal of the murderer…this one signaled – at least subtly – who the murderer likely was before the reveal, although it did not reveal the “how” of how it was pulled off…I enjoyed that…always enjoy Poirot, and we learned a significant amount of his back story in this film…
I have to disagree with your grade of C+. I would give it a solid B, leaning towards B+. I truly had no idea who killed whom till it was revealed, at which time it was a forehead thumping, “Well, DUH!”.
However, I agree that the performances on Orient Express were better.
Hi Jim. I might have to see this again. All my notes say, “This is a terrible film.” I might just have been wanting it to be like Orient Express, which was very artistic and logical, and expected more like that. This one had too much relationship stuff. I’m not an Agatha Christie fan so I’m going in unspoiled. I’m thankful for that.
