Movie Review – The King’s Man

Let me start off by saying, this is an origin story for Kingsman, and it serves its purpose well.

The origin story was mentioned briefly in the first Kingsman when Harry (Galahad) introduced Eggsy to the secret service. This movie fits that storyline and delivers it well and digs it deeper with the father-son relationship. Plus, we get to see Ralph Fiennes with some good action along with gentlemanly manners which is like a reverse-Voldemort if you think about it.

What gives it extra points for me is the message it conveys, and some of you may not like it — so many young men/women are being “tricked” by propaganda (patriotism is its other name) and joining wars without realizing what they are really getting into. This is the cornerstone of the whole Kingsman universe — The purpose of Kingsman is to end wars.

Of course, what’s missing as a classic spy element is all the cool spy gadgets. It was WWI, there’s no way around that, but they did find a fun way to fill that blank a little.

Overall, I think this movie is well-made, definitely better than the second Kingsman, and is worth watching if you like the Kingsman universe.

Grade: A-

About The Peetimes: Here are good 3 Peetimes. Dan recommended the 2nd and 3rd if you can wait.

There are extra scenes during, or after, the end credits of The King’s Man. (What we mean by Anything Extra.)

Plot
In the early years of the 20th century, the Kingsman agency is formed to stand against a cabal plotting a war to wipe out millions.

Movie Watching Must Have!!

I go feral for this app. I love it so much and I wish everyone knew about it and used it. It is incredibly useful and I would be devastated if this app ever disappeared. Things I love: 1) the pee times! It’s so handy to know the best time to go and then read the synopsis of what’s happening while I’m gone. I never have to worry about missing the good bits! 2) knowing if there is a post-credits scene or not. This might be my fav feature because I would have missed out on some pretty critical scenes if it weren’t for RunPee. 3) the movie review and viewer rankings. This info has made me watch some movies that I normally wouldn’t and it’s nice seeing things outside of my usual scope. 4) that it’s a small family run business. I love shopping small and it really does feel like I’m part of the RunPee family! If you reach out to them, Dan will personally respond to you and he is so warm and helpful. GET THIS APP AND THEN SUBSCRIBE! It is absolutely worth it and you’ll be using it again and again!

While I did like the movie and would like to see more of them especially in this time (1914 and up) the one thing I did not like and will try to say it without a spoiler, was did not like how one person died, it seems like a let down, he did so much and saved lives and to have him die the say he did kind of made me angry. Otherwise it was slow in a few parts, but I did like seeing how it all started, hope it does well

  2. I know what you are talking about and couldn’t agree more. While I understand that this character has to die for the origin story to work, I did not like the way they did it. This character deserves a more fitting death than the “twist” they used him for.
