I see about 70 movies per year and rarely do I see the audience stand up and applaud at the end of a movie. The Butler was worthy of the applause.
Forrest Whitaker as Cecil Gaines was as good – or even better – than he was in The Last King Of Scotland. Oprah Winfrey gave an equally outstanding performance as his wife. Each actor is worthy of another Oscar nomination for their roles.
The stellar supporting cast brought the movie to the next level. 30 years worth of White House history is a lot to pack into a movie, but the writer Danny Strong did a fine job, and Lee Daniels’ direction was near flawless.
