I used to play MK back in the 90s, but haven’t played it since and haven’t kept up with the mythology built around it. My wife has never played the video game and was confused by the plot and asked many questions. I told her she was overthinking it. There’s good guys and bad guys and they’re going to fight. The plot really doesn’t matter.
The best I can say about the movie is that it wasn’t embarrassingly bad. Just sort of generally disappointing. It would be a hit if they could create a really good story around the tournament, but like I said, the story is just a prop to set up fight scenes.

The acting was about what you might expect — no one was hired for their acting abilities alone, that’s for sure. If I had to pick a best performance, I’d say Josh Lawson, who plays Kano, was pretty good. Or at least he had the best lines and delivered them really well.
Jessica McNamee, as Sonya, wasn’t bad. There were a few scenes where she reminded me of Charlize Theron. (At least the way she smiles.)
I hope everyone who wants to see this movie is only watching for the fight scenes, and more specifically for the fatalities. I know that I wasn’t particularly impressed with the former, but the latter were sufficiently graphic.
If you don’t go in expecting too much then you might enjoy it.
Grade: C-
About The Peetimes: The 1st Peetime is the best because it only has a very brief action scene. The 2nd Peetime is good. There are sparring scenes, but no real action. The 3rd Peetime is for Emergencies only. There’s a lot of action and plot development.
There are no extra scenes during, or after, the end credits of Mortal Kombat. (What we mean by Anything Extra.)

Brilliant idea with great information
I’ve been using RunPee for a few years now and it’s basically a requirement of going to the movies for me. The best part of course are the “pee times” that give you cues, synopses and times for when you can pee without missing the most important parts of the movie. There is also information about the credits- length, extras and if there are any extra scenes at the wayyy end. Super helpful to just know that it is or isn’t worth staying. There is a timer function that will buzz your phone when it’s a good time to pee. I also appreciate that the app is very conscientious about it being an app you use in a theater- dark background, all silent alarms etc. I will always enjoy the experience of the theater even if I could watch things at home- but I’ve even used it at home to check for things like after credit scenes or other information too.
