Movie Review - Candyman
Where do I start? I've been staring at my screen for about an hour trying to come up with a review. I asked the man in charge (my brother, the CEO/Founder) if I could simply put "Meh." That's about it. He'd like a little more, so here it goes.
Tony Todd as the Candyman. There is not one other person on the planet that could do what Tony Todd did for Candyman. His seductive voice sends shivers down your back. The way he moves, smooth and sensual. Yeah, I love Tony Todd. What I don't like is they didn't give me my Tony Todd until the very end. What!? There's my first complaint.
Second complaint: chemistry. The actors need it to make the story come to life. None. I felt no chemistry between any of the actors. It felt clunky and off-kilter. I didn't develop any care for any of the characters. I was sitting in my seat thinking, just kill them all. Roll credits and I'm out of here. Usually, you've got the few characters that you're rooting for, the ones that your heart bleeds for and keeps you on the edge of your seat. Nope. None.
Here's a positive: the cinematography was awesome. The first two minutes of the movie were shot as a mirror image. You see the buildings of NYC upside down and backward. This was cool -- they even had all the opening credits backward.
I don't know if I would recommend this movie. As long as you don't get your hopes up for a thrilling, intense, hair-raising movie, you'll be okay.
