Elton John – Lyrics & Video to Bennie & the Jets

Taron Edgerton is Elton John in Rocketman
Taron Edgerton is Elton John in Rocketman

Taron Egerton apparently makes the perfect Elton John, and it’s kind of great he and Elton worked together last year in Kingsman 2: The Golden Circle (with Elton playing himself!). Egerton reported that John was so happy with is biopic that he broke down crying to Egerton. Can we just say Awwwww?

We know Bennie and the Jets will be in the film — at the very least, it’s featured heavily in the trailers. Here’s a great video, followed by the lyrics to this iconic song.

Benny and the Jets Lyrics

[Performed by Elton John]

Hey kids, shake it loose together
The spotlight’s hitting something
That’s been known to change the weather
We’ll kill the fatted calf tonight
So stick around
You’re gonna hear electric music
Solid walls of sound

Say, Candy and Ronnie, have you seen them yet
Uh but they’re so spaced out, B-B-B-Bennie and the Jets
Oh but they’re weird and they’re wonderful
Oh Bennie she’s really keen
She’s got electric boots a mohair suit
You know I read it in a magazine
B-B-B-Bennie and the Jets

Hey kids, plug into the faithless
Maybe they’re blinded
But Bennie makes them ageless
We shall survive, let us take ourselves along

Where we fight our parents out in the streets
To find who’s right and who’s wrong
Oh Candy and Ronnie, have you seen them yet
Oh but they’re so spaced out, Bennie and the Jets
Oh but they’re weird and they’re wonderful
Oh Bennie she’s really keen
She’s got electric boots a mohair suit
You know I read it in a magazine, oh
B-B-B-Bennie and the Jets

Oh Candy and Ronnie, have you seen them yet
Oh but they’re so spaced out, Bennie and the Jets
Oh but they’re weird and they’re wonderful
Oh Bennie she’s really keen
She’s got electric boots a mohair suit
You know I read it in a magazine, oh
B-B-B-Bennie and the Jets

This is a great app. I wish more people would support it

This app provides info about movies, reviews, ratings from people who have seen it before and after viewing. It has links to info about the movies. It let’s you know when there will be a lull in the action and how long it will last. If you want to know what happens during that time, you can check the brief synopsis (you have to click a link, so no accidental spoilers). It has a timer you can set (silent) to alert you to a break. It also tells you whether there is anything extra during or after the credits. It’s really a wonderful app. I’ve subscribed for a couple of years to support the developers, but I noticed some of the links to provide feedback didn’t seem to work today. They also made it free, with voluntary donations to see the pee-times. If you haven’t tried it, I encourage you to do so, and subscribe if you like it. I really hope the app is supported so it can continue to be maintained!

Developers note: RunPee doesn’t make much money but it supports itself nicely. Donations are appreciated, but not required. We’ll add as many movies to the database as we can until there are no more movie theaters.

Can I just say that you made a mistake up there… the lyrics are not by Elton John. Any personal attributes or character foibles reflected in the song belong to Bernie Taupin. I remember him being interviewed about the original ‘Candle In The Wind’ and being asked about what was it that Marilyn Monroe meant to him. He replied “nothing really… Bernie writes the words”.

  2. Rather, I should say Performed by Elton John. I have Bernie Taupin listed in the section below the lyrics where it says Songwriters.

    I’ll make that more clear.

Please don’t think I’m having a go or anything! I love your site and app and everything you’re doing.

I am a fan of Elton John. If you Google “Elton John” and “Shoreditch College” you should get a story about him doing a secret, free concert at a local college… and I was there!

  3. Oh, no worries, Rob! I appreciate your making the distinction. I do want to make the blog as accurate as possible.

How cool is it you were at a secret college concert with Elton John! How many people have that kind of unique experience in their lives?

I’m so curious about Rocketman tonight. Have you seen it already? I’m a little afraid it make me cry or feel sad…I so hope it’s more about his triumphant creativity than showcasing a downward spiral of bad choices. Both Bohemian Rhapsody and A Star Is Born were on the sad end of things. I want to be uplifted!

It seems like so many great artists were self-destructive, and I don’t think you have to be a personal mess to be great.

      I thoroughly enjoyed it!

It didn’t shy away from the lows or overemphasise the highs. At least with Elton John you know that he has survived it all and come out the other side.

The precredit cards do give you a lift and a smile at the end.

      Enjoy!

Slight change of subject but I spotted this today…

This one could be really interesting!

        1. That’s really cool! The article mentions an upcoming Aretha Franklin movie too — I guess this is the big thing now. I keep waiting for a David Bowie film — he seems like a strange enough individual worthy of a movie.

Who else in music do you think would be a good biopic subject?

Ooh… a Bowie biopic! Imagine the budget for the costumes on that… so many different characters and images over the years.

Who else would be good? Interesting question and one I’ve been pondering all day while going round the zoo with my grandchildren. The problem is that the groups I was a fan of are old prog rock bands like Genesis, Jethro Tull, Yes, Supertramp, etc. A Peter Gabriel biopic might not be most peoples idea of an evenings entertainment but I’d be there for the first showing! Rick Wakeman could be interesting though…

  4. Thanks – we’ll see. Since I’m doing the Peetimes I will be writing the review. I’m glad this is a movie with the artist still alive, but don’t look forward to seeing his pain. I take it all on my soul and hurt for them.

Glad you liked it! Test audiences were very positive.
