Movie review : Parental Guidance

Parental Guidance was the perfect choice for a Christmas Day movie. Of course I had to see it for work but since it was Christmas I took my husband and daughter to see it with me. My husband and I are going to be grandparents any day now so this was a super fitting movie.

As we sat watching this we could totally sympathize with Bette Midler and Billy Crystal’s characters and our daughter could somewhat sympathize with Marisa Tomei’s character. The movie really just boils down to old school parenting or the hip new age style. Both sides think they are right and the other is wrong but in the end they meet half way.

Through out the journey of finding common ground the laughs are plentiful and belly shakers. Billy Crystal brought his A game to this production. The three of us couldn’t find one thing that we didn’t like so really what I’m saying here is this movie will appeal to all ages.

Our theater was packed so I was able to see a bigger audience reaction than I normal. There were at least ten times I can think of that the whole crowd was laughing heartily. This comedy was leading up to an ending that was so well written and acted that I didn’t see it coming.

There is a particular scene towards the end of the movie that had the whole theater hushed. I sat there watching Joshua Rush (Turner) put on a performance that made tears fill my eyes. I look over and my daughter is crying, she is hormonal right now but when I saw my husband crying I knew this movie had just touched each and every individual in the theater.

Each and every actor in this movie, right down to the invisible kangaroo named Carl, did wonderfully. It was a pleasure to watch this movie on such a wonderful day. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all and to all a good night.

Grade: A+

About The Peetimes: Two pee times were originally done for this movie. However after seeing the entire show I chose not to include the one farther into the movie. That scene seemed a good idea at the time but based on a later scene it is very important to an incredibly touching scene. So I will include a time here to NOT run pee. At an hour and six minutes into the movie Artie goes into Turner’s room for a pep talk, don’t miss this scene.

This is a great app. I wish more people would support it

This app provides info about movies, reviews, ratings from people who have seen it before and after viewing. It has links to info about the movies. It let’s you know when there will be a lull in the action and how long it will last. If you want to know what happens during that time, you can check the brief synopsis (you have to click a link, so no accidental spoilers). It has a timer you can set (silent) to alert you to a break. It also tells you whether there is anything extra during or after the credits. It’s really a wonderful app. I’ve subscribed for a couple of years to support the developers, but I noticed some of the links to provide feedback didn’t seem to work today. They also made it free, with voluntary donations to see the pee-times. If you haven’t tried it, I encourage you to do so, and subscribe if you like it. I really hope the app is supported so it can continue to be maintained!

Developers note: RunPee doesn’t make much money but it supports itself nicely. Donations are appreciated, but not required. We’ll add as many movies to the database as we can until there are no more movie theaters.

Christene Johnson (RunPee Sis)

RunPee.com owes RunPee Sis a huge debt of gratitude. She sees any movie needed with no complaints and has done so for ten years (even basing Thanksgiving and Christmas family festivities around the seeing films). In 2015 Sis ran the entire RunPee enterprise herself, while RunPee Dan, Jilly and Mom went traipsing off to Europe. Sis is the spider in the web holding the RunPee family together — besides being a funny, well rounded person, and a joyous pleasure to be around. Her favorite films start and end with horror (which thank goodness she’s happy to see, since most of us don’t have the stomach for it) — but also likes silly comedies, sad dramas, and musicals of all types. If you’ve used a Peetime for a scary film, you probably have RunPee Sis to thank for it.

Favorite movie genre: Horror, horror, and more horror. The more disturbing, the better. Period.

Bio
