Movie review: Lawless

Grade: B+

For weeks I had been anxiously awaiting the premier of Lawless. I can’t really put into words how much I love Tom Hardy and Shia LaBeouf. I watched Shia grow up on television and blossom into a really great movie star. It was like seeing my own child succeed and flourish in a cutthroat business. Now with Tom it’s purely sexual. The dude is hot. Plain and simple. I was really happy to see that they gave it an R rating. I interpreted that into meaning I’m going to see Tom naked. Ladies, I’m sad to report it’s not Tom that you see naked. Men, you can still sit there with your heads held high even happily in fact because you have a scene where Jessica Chastain is naked.

The movie itself wasn’t bad even though my hopes for a gratuitous, naked, sex scene with Tom didn’t happen. The setting was terrific and costumes outstanding. There is a moment where Shia is walking away in his ratty clothes that made me laugh out loud. His britches were filthy, saggy and too short. The transformation of his clothing style throughout the movie was a night and day turn around. He pulled both of the looks off. Again, that’s my boy!

Lawless was a bit slow on the start. Looking back on it though, they did it correctly. What I thought was just useless filler stuff actually made the movie complete at the end. The way I judge whether or not I like a movie is if I give a flying cat crap if one of them dies. Tom Hardy should have died like three times. So three times I had a lump in my throat and was screaming in my head, “Not Tom!! Don’t let him die!! Not again! Or again!”

All in all, it was an enjoyable movie. Not what I was expecting but sometimes that works.

Movie review: Hit and Run

Grade: B+

The movie is fun and hilarious and even sweet at times. It won’t win an Oscar but it won me over and that’s all I wanted.

I am thoroughly impressed with Dax Shepard. I had no idea that he not only stared in the movie but also wrote it and directed it. I have loved him since seeing “Without a Paddle”. This just cemented my opinion of him.

Dax and Bradley played off each other splendidly. During a few of their scenes together I forgot that I was watching a movie. The good movies do that which is good for the viewer. Not so good for me trying to remember to find peetimes.

The chase scenes were fun and creative. If you want a great date movie then go see it. There is a little something for him and a little something for her too.

Movie review : Bridesmaids

The bright side to hitting rock bottom is that there is only one way to go from there. The correct answer is up, unless your name is Annie and you have just become your best friends maid of honor.

As the story unfolds, we meet Annie, played by Kristin Wiig. Her life is in utter chaos. She has lost her business, lives with two terrible roommates, has a car that is falling apart and her love life stinks. On top of dealing with her own issues, she now has to plan her best friends wedding. She thinks she is up to the job but at every turn, things go horribly wrong. It all starts to go downhill for Annie when she meets Helen, one of Lillian’s bridesmaids. Helen seems to have it all, wealth, a fancy home, carefree lifestyle and always looks perfect. An instant rivalry forms between the two of them and it leads Annie to her breakdown. Wiig does an amazing job of portraying a neurotic person losing control over their life. I would go so far as to say, even better than Charlie Sheen has done. I spent the whole movie sitting there thinking, I want to just slap her silly. How can a person be such a basket case? This leads to my next thought. The acting was marvelous. The entire supporting cast was splendid.

Melissa McCarthy absolutely stole the show. Her character Megan was magical. Every line she had was so perfectly executed with humor and sincerity that I fell in love with her.

Rose Byrne, who played Helen did such a perfect job of playing the bitch that wasn’t trying to be a bitch that really was a bitch. Or is she? We discover that what we take at face value, isn’t always the case.

Officer Rhodes played by Chris O’Dowd, was also integral to this wonderful ensemble. His character, with his cute little accent and sweet smile had you wanting to meet a police officer and eat carrots on the hood of their cruiser, like Annie gets to do.

Rita and Becca (Wendi McLendon-Covey and Elle Kemper) are two of the other bridesmaids, their roles were smaller, but they proved quite funny.

Interestingly enough, Lillian, the bride, played by Maya Rudolph, didn’t seem to be such a perfectly developed character. I didn’t really feel for her. I couldn’t understand why she was having issues. She was getting it all, everything little girls dream of. The writers didn’t do so great with her role.

So as I sit here writing this review, I realize, I like it better today than I did yesterday. I was thinking back on some of the hilarious scenes and I’m actually laughing out loud. Again.

Bridesmaids is like a bottle of wine. it improves over time. I can admit that I’m as cheap as they come, but I will buy this on DVD when it comes out.

Don’t you just love movies where animals can talk. What I really love is trying to figure out who all the voices are. This time around I was stumped on a few of them, so I recommend looking the movie up on IMDB before hand. Now that I know who all the voices were, it’s even more funny.

There are a ton of funny one liners, so many that I actually started writing them down so I could use them for myself. It’s a very predictable movie but that doesn’t matter at all. You can just sit back and laugh. It’s a fun movie for all ages, young or old, you’re gonna love it.

Of the three that have come out so far, I feel this one was the best. You were given the background stories on some of the characters that brought them further to life, a lot of humor was thrown in, the chemistry between Bella, Edward and Jacob is top notch and well it was just entertaining. Kristen Stewart did a remarkable job on showing us how difficult it is for her choosing between Jacob and Edward. There was a scene that Edward, Jacob and Bella stay overnight in a tent and the dialog between the two boy’s was intensely funny, in a werewolf/vampire kind of way. Bella’s dad had plenty of offbeat comments making him come further to life. All in all, I give this movie an A. I know I am waiting on pins and needles to see the last one because this one did such a good job pumping you up for the final installment.

A quick note about my pee time near the end of the movie…if you absolutely can’t hold it, go during this scene. It is where the battle takes place, we have the good vampires and werewolves beating the crap out of the bad vampires, the graphics were pretty cool, and well lets face it, it’s fun to watch bad things die. gives Twilight Eclipse 3 out of 4 stars. Adam Sandler, David Spade, Kevin James, Chris Rock and Rob Schneider…what do they all have in common? They all entertained my brain in what I would call Sandler’s best film ever. I wasn’t expecting what was delivered. I knew there would be some funny moments but the way all the guys worked together truly made a memorable movie memory. There was of course the off beat schtick that we’re used to, but he upped the ante in this one and was actually lovable and get It’s something that all of us over thirty-five can relate to..the coming of middle age. Each one was experiencing his own troubles and each were of course dealt with by the time the credits rolled. It was predictable..but who cares..sometimes you just want to see something fun.

I was a little shocked that Chris Rock’s character was played down..he wasn’t his normal F bomb dropper..he’s actually a house-husband with a heart..and is currently suffering from PMS. Yep, that one shocked me..

One of my favorite actors, Steve Buscemi, delivered a well sculpted role of being an ass. It was a small role but he still left an impression on me and a wall..go see the movie to find out what I mean..
Kevin James has a scene that anyone whose ever had a mishap with a rope swing can totally relate to…ohhhh…the pain, but the boy has got some serious groove moves.

Salma Hyek of course is as beautiful as always..starts off bitchy, but like I the end everything works out.

It’s a great you should totally get off the computer and go watch it. Why are you still here? Go.
Since you are still reading and haven’t taken my advice, maybe this will get you to go..I would love for everyone to come back here after the movie and let me know what your thoughts were on the whole boobie thing..??
