I just finished watching E.T. for basically the first time. I only saw it one time in 1982, and 38 years later didn’t remember anything beyond the “Phone Home” shtick. I wrote this grand review about the symbolism in E.T. with a lot of thoughts tending towards the introspective. I had to rewatch E.T. to get Peetimes for RunPee, because the old favorites are playing at drive-in theaters during the lockdown, and we don’t want to leave you hanging in a long movie like this.
The glorious E.T. sequel
So I was buzzing off my E.T. experience when I stumbled over this incredible follow-up to the original story, featuring none other than Henry Thomas himself, as Elliot, all grown up. With his own family. Apparently he also lives in the same Northern California tract development, with the same woodshed, same old bike-with-basket. He kept up his fascination with space. (As one does after becoming besties with an alien.)
There’s a TON of heartfelt nods to the classic film, and you can even see the E.T. doodle young Elliot made while goofing off at school. The only thing missing is a Speak & Spell toy. I don’t want to say much more, because I fear I’m spoiling it already.

This E.T. “sequel” is actually a 4+ minute commercial made in 2019 by Xfinity, and why I never came across this before has me stumped. It’s a mini-movie, with feature film-quality production values, and it’s now canon as far as I’m concerned. I’m not ashamed to say I cried a tiny bit at the end. (Sometimes a good commercial can do that. Remember those Reach Out And Touch Someone ads?)

Movie Watching Must Have!!
I go feral for this app. I love it so much and I wish everyone knew about it and used it. It is incredibly useful and I would be devastated if this app ever disappeared. Things I love: 1) the pee times! It’s so handy to know the best time to go and then read the synopsis of what’s happening while I’m gone. I never have to worry about missing the good bits! 2) knowing if there is a post-credits scene or not. This might be my fav feature because I would have missed out on some pretty critical scenes if it weren’t for RunPee. 3) the movie review and viewer rankings. This info has made me watch some movies that I normally wouldn’t and it’s nice seeing things outside of my usual scope. 4) that it’s a small family run business. I love shopping small and it really does feel like I’m part of the RunPee family! If you reach out to them, Dan will personally respond to you and he is so warm and helpful. GET THIS APP AND THEN SUBSCRIBE! It is absolutely worth it and you’ll be using it again and again!
