From there you can select the genre, or genres, that you want to see. If you select multiple genres, for instance Adventure and Comedy, then by default it will show movies that have both of those genres.

Or you can use the +/- buttons to make it an either/or search.

Couldn’t live without this app anymore. Perfect to time my run for another glass of wine or two. Works great with my smart watch.

Sure, some of these might be a little redundant. Like I’m not sure myself what the difference is between a Remake and a Reboot. But if you’re in the mood to see a Time TravelComedy movie, then we got your back. 🙂

We’re also gradually working through adding all of the Bond films to the database, along with other series like Star Trek, Star Wars, LOTR, Harry Potter, and lots of others, in time.

  1. I love genre splicing!

On Remake vs Reboot. A Remake is when an old movie is dusted off and remade to adapt to more modern sensibilities. Like how West Side Story is a fairly faithful remake of Romeo & Juliet.

A Reboot is when you make large changes to the concept and universe. Gender flips like in Battlestar Galactica or Dirty Rotten Scoundrels/The Hustle. Entirely new timelines/relationships/personalities like in JJ’s Star Trek. (Which is technically a ‘soft reboot’ since the original timeline is actually a plot point between Spock and Spock.)

A Reimaging is just something Ron Moore made up, I think, because I don’t think the term reboot was used so much then, at least as applied to movies.

So a remake can be also rebooted…and a reboot is a form of remake. But a simple remake is intended to be faithful to the original telling.

    Clear as mud!

  2. That makes sense. Thanks.
