"Let’s get this out of the way: I (a 56-year-old male) am NOT the target audience for this film. That being said, I have to admit that it got me.

I’ll be honest with you - I was really dreading going to see this.  I had not seen the previous two movies based on Colleen Hoover’s novels (It Ends with Us and Regretting You) because...well, again, I’m a 56-year-old male.  There is nothing wrong with these types of movies obviously; they’re just not for me.  The trailer explains it all: a woman recently out of prison is desperate to reunite with her young daughter and has to deal with a potential forbidden romance with the small-town hunk.

But I’ll tell you what: it works!  The lead actors (Maika Monroe from Longlegs and Tyriq Withers from Him) do an admirable job - they have chemistry, and they emote pretty naturally.  And of course, they both do an excellent job of just generally looking hot all the time, which, y’know, is important in this kind of film.

The film is shot competently - the camera loves these actors. Vanessa Caswell directs, and the film is warm and easy to watch.  It’s set in Wyoming (Alberta, Canada, stood in for our state), and so the background of the mountains is beautiful.  (But I will say that if you have the great Lauren Graham in your film, you need to give her more to do.)

If you promise you won’t tell, I’ll admit I got a little verklempt near the end of the movie.  If it can get to even a crusty old guy like me, you just might like it, regardless of whether you’re in the target audience or not."

Plot When Diem’s custodial grandparents adamantly refuse Kenna’s attempts to see her daughter, Kenna discovers unexpected compassion, and then something truer and deeper, with former NFL player and local bar owner Ledger. As their secret romance develops, so do the dangers for both of them, leading Kenna toward heartbreak and, ultimately, the hope for a second chance.
