Let me start off by saying I’m not into historical movies. I prefer to walk into a theater and be amused or scared for a couple of hours. If I wanted to learn about a specific historical event, I’d pick up a book and read about it.
That’s why Runpee Dan usually doesn’t send me to watch these. I’m not the target audience here. Let me stop right there. Not only did I love this movie, I actually came home and looked up some of this info I gathered, and researched it more.
Not being a history buff put me at a disadvantage. The movie starts off quickly, and I realized soon that I didn’t have the knowledge base this movie requires. So yes, for about the first hour, I was lost. The movie did a great job though of helping me connect all of the dots, and my light bulb went off. By the last half of the movie, I was on the same page and was restlessly waiting to see how it unfolded.

The acting was top notch. The story, heartbreaking as it was, was magnificently told. The directing was spot on also. It’s movies like this that impress me. You take a story that’s not quite up your alley and display it in such a way that it grabs the viewer and captivates them. Now that’s what Hollywood is supposed to do. Great job!!
Grade: A-
