Las Vegas Locations Where ‘The Hangover’ Was Filmed

the-hangover_hero

We all remember the movie The Hangover… a pretty ass-kickingly funny film about a bunch of ‘interesting’ characters that get up to all sorts of shenanigans at a stag do… and the stag, himself, seems to get lost after a seriously epic night out where no-one can remember a thing – and the only clue they have to what happened is a fully grown tiger wandering around their hotel room.

Let’s face it. Las Vegas is not just known for casinos, but it’s called Sin City. It’s a place where anything can happen… After all, what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas right? Well, plenty happened in the Hangover – and it happened in some pretty cool locations as well. If you want to put away those online casinos and see where some real action happened, then let’s take a look at the different locations in Vegas where The Hangover was filmed.

1: Caesar’s Palace

OK, yes, it was partly filmed at Caesars Palace, but probably as much as you may have thought. Whilst the check-in desk and valet scenes were filmed at the world-famous hotel, the actual hotel suite they filmed in was just a recreation (they maybe didn’t want a tiger in the hotel perhaps?!) It was, instead, a film set.

That being said, quite a bit of filming was done in the hotel – the Caesar’s hallway and elevator lobby were used, where the famous wolfpack walk happened – and you can visit where it all happened on the 24th floor of the Augustus Tower.

But what about the rooftop of the hotel? Where our poor, hungover bridegroom to be was eventually found? Well, this was also very real and very filmed at Caesars Palace – at the top of the Forum Tower. However, we wouldn’t recommend you visit this place as it is not accessible to visitors – and you may find yourself on the wrong side of security if you attempt it.

2: Wild Wild West

This was something that almost never came to be – as originally Station Casinos (now known as Red Rock Resorts) rejected the request to film one of its scenes at the back of the Wild Wild West Casino. After all, this wasn’t its most flattering gambling establishment. This was a run-down, two-story building that wasn’t reflective of the company’s newer establishments. They were not that keen on the idea that it would represent the apartment block of a prostitute either. It wasn’t exactly the PR push that the company was after apparently.

However, the film producers were desperate for it – it was the perfect location, serving up views of the famous Strip across Interstate 15. So, they decided to make them an offer that they simply couldn’t refuse. And, as it so happened, they didn’t refuse it in the end.

Movie Watching Must Have!!

I go feral for this app. I love it so much and I wish everyone knew about it and used it. It is incredibly useful and I would be devastated if this app ever disappeared. Things I love: 1) the pee times! It’s so handy to know the best time to go and then read the synopsis of what’s happening while I’m gone. I never have to worry about missing the good bits! 2) knowing if there is a post-credits scene or not. This might be my fav feature because I would have missed out on some pretty critical scenes if it weren’t for RunPee. 3) the movie review and viewer rankings. This info has made me watch some movies that I normally wouldn’t and it’s nice seeing things outside of my usual scope. 4) that it’s a small family run business. I love shopping small and it really does feel like I’m part of the RunPee family! If you reach out to them, Dan will personally respond to you and he is so warm and helpful. GET THIS APP AND THEN SUBSCRIBE! It is absolutely worth it and you’ll be using it again and again!

If you do wish to visit it, however, then you won’t be in luck. Red Rock ended up demolishing the casino and motel, which has been operated as a Days Inn by Wyndham for a number of years. It is believed that a Vegas athletics stadium will be built in its place.

3: Bungalows Hostel

Remember that famous marriage scene at Best Little Chapel? Well, that Best Little Chapel doesn’t actually exist. But the place where it was filmed does. There was a fake building front put on an establishment called ‘Hostel Cat’. And it became the wedding venue where that drunken marriage occurred.

That being said, you can’t actually get married in Vegas when you are drunk, but it’s always a nice little myth that adds some comedy value!

4: The Empty Lot

The Empty Lot was filmed at Mandalay Bay Road and Giles Street – and this was the setting for some seriously funny action. It was Ken Jeong himself who came up with the idea to jump out of the Merc butt naked – making it one of the most memorable scenes of the movie.

Although the development along the southern Strip has been booming, this empty lot remains empty. However, it has been fenced off so it will be tricky to recreate the scene…

5: Jean Fuel West Shell

Located at 1 Goodsprings Road, this location is 27 miles south of the Caesars Palace building. This is where the wolfpack stuck petrol in their car and fled themselves on plenty of snacks.

This gas station is where Sach Galifianakis’ character perused ‘The World’s Greatest Blackjack Book’ – and ended up threatening to “hit an old man in public”. For the film, it was rebranded as Gas n Gulp – so there were no legal repercussions or accusations of product placement. Fake name… but real place.

6: Jean Dry Lake

In Sloan, Nevada, this location can be found 26 miles south of Vegas – and can be accessed via the Sloan Road exit… off I-15. If you do happen to find yourself passing that way, then you can check out the famously hilarious ransom swap scene. In reality, it’s more popular for off-roading than ransom swaps… And, just a fun fact, this is where the secret meeting between Joe Pesci and Robert De Niro’s characters happened in the 1995 movie Casino.
