RunPee has been great to me over the years, but since the Covid pandemic, it’s not made a livable wage. RunPee has essentially become a time-consuming hobby. I go to one or two, occasionally three, movies a week, and manage the customer feedback and such. Fortunately, the app is pretty stable and doesn’t require much upkeep. There are some improvements I would like to make if I can find the time.

Time, however, has become a precious commodity because I’ve taken on the CTO role for another startup called Mapt: College Planning Advisor. For the past 18 months, I’ve been working with the CEO to build an app that helps high school students navigate the path to college.

Studies have shown that the number one stress among high school students revolves around college admissions. There simply are not enough guidance counselors available today to help with the process. Families that can afford it hire private counselors to help their children make the best decisions possible about their continued education. Less fortunate families are left to struggle through the uncertainties on their own. The result is that 60% of students from high-income families go on to complete their degree, while only 16% of students from low-income families do so. Graduating from college increases an individual’s lifetime earnings by $1 million, increases employment stability by 50%, and unlocks crucial social capital.

Our mission is to bridge the gap and give all students the tools necessary to continue their education. All of the most important core features of theย Mapt app are free to everyone. We offer a monthly subscription option to parents so they can follow their child’s progress and gain access to a human college advisor.

Mapt helps students in many ways. (all free)

  • Create a college list.
  • Get reminders about important application due dates.
  • Compare colleges.
  • Readย Crash Course material to gain important knowledge about the college application process on everything from choosing the right major to applying for financial aid.
  • Prompt students to write journal entries that will guide them in their journey of self-discovery to find their best future.
  • Chat with our custom-trained bot, Deci, to get feedback and guidance on their questions about the college application process, what majors are right for them, etc.

I would be grateful if you shared this information with anyone who could benefit from Mapt.

Just wanted to say thank you so much for all you do with this app. I first grabbed it probably around when it first released for phones around 2009! For my dad who is notorious for needing to use the restroom though a movie. I’ve seen told any and all family, friends, etc. about this fun and useful app! I mainly use it now for the reviews and for if there’s credits after the movie. Your app has been a constant in my life as an avid movie goer. I can’t thank y’all enough for being a companion during my movie visits! Wishing you all the best in your endeavors in your new role and app! Thanks again and happy new years!

    1. Thank you. That’s very kind of you. Happy new year to you, and everyone else, as well.
