Movie Review - The Fire Inside
There's a lot to like, but not much to love. I have never heard of Claressa Shields before, so I knew nothing of the outcome of the story, although I can guess that if they're making a movie then she had some success.
I now this isn't a fair comparison, but there was never a Rocky moment in the movie, even though they included a training montage of kids following her as she jogged through the neighborhood. Basically, there's little to no drama of what's going to happen in the ring.
The root of her struggle comes after winning a gold meddle and trying to earn a little money in advertising. I guess what's missing for me is that I can feel her frustration and anger at the situation, but that's about it. I was hoping for more depth.
I'm really happy to see Brian Tyree Henry in a serious role. I thought he was outstanding.

Plot
The story of Claressa 'T-Rex' Shields, a boxer from Flint, Michigan who trained to become the first woman in her country's history to win an Olympic gold medal in the sport.
